Chapter 9 - Mana Core

[Host, stop crying like a kid who got injured and focus on your mind. Slowly everything will be learnt by you. The data was too much. I just gave you basic knowledge. Well, you can always ask me about everything, so you don't have to worry]

Asher really wanted to smack it right now...

[Host, I was thinking something]

'What is it?'

[I don't like being called 'it', so give me a name]

'Why ask me? Just pick one for yourself'

[No, just give me one]

'Alright, don't complain later then' Asher thought for a moment. 'How about Luna?'

[Fine then, from now on my name is Luna. Next time you better call me that or I won't listen]

'Tch... I don't like being called Host too. It seems as if I'm host to some parasite'

[I already decided what to call you. You will love it]

'What?'

[Master~]

Asher shivered a little. Fuck, why is he surrounded by seductresses...

[Hehehe, Master, you got hard again~]

'Shut up and let me focus on this knowledge'

[Alright, alright...]

Asher shook his head and started sorting out everything... It didn't take long as everything already existed in his brain.

When he understood everything, he got stunned at the scope of this world and the level one can achieve.

"Damn, the strongest people here are basically gods"

[Well, you can say that. Your future wife is a vampire goddess. You must be thrilled, right?]

"Wife? After learning all this, I am even more doubtful. I will be happy if I can just talk with her. To think a Primordial Vampire would be that terrifying"

Asher really was stunned. The vampire race overall was far more terrifying than he thought. No wonder others were jealous of them.

It all comes down to blood. Vampires get stronger if they drink the blood of a stronger entity, but that's just the physical part.

A normal vampire can get any desired affinity. They just have to drink the blood of someone with that affinity for the first time.

The more blood of that affinity they drink, the more they get attuned to it — even better than the person from whom they drank the blood. It was quite a cheat in this world where stronger affinities have far better advantages.

This is just for normal vampires. The advantages for half-primordial and primordial vampires are tremendous.

Half-primordials can get 5 affinities in a similar way, and primordials can get unlimited. All they have to do is drink the blood.

And this is just the case for affinities. All vampires get random skills of opponents too if they drink a certain amount of blood from them.

Some beasts don't have any affinities but they have their racial skills, which can be of any affinity depending on their race — like vampires have blood manipulation.

Skills are also obtained by killing someone... The drop rate is not one hundred percent, but this is the only way to obtain skills from someone. Most of the skills present in the world are racial skills of some creature.

The strength of skills depends on four things: Tier of the skill, your rank, your affinity, and the amount of mana you use to activate the skill.

Even the weakest Novice Tier skill in the hands of a Rank 10 would be terrifying.

Your rank acts as an exponential multiplier for skill strength, and in the same rank, those who have higher affinity with their element will have advantages.

As for mana, the more mana you use for a skill, the stronger it will be. There is a limit though — it is defined by the Tier of the ability.

Some other factors which affect the strength of a skill are that if you don't have affinity with the skill you are using, then you won't get the advantage of the affinity boost.

After going through this, he could understand how terrifying vampires are...

He was Rank 0 human right now, just similar to those who never absorbed mana.

Just like your attunement to elemental affinities matters, how much you are attuned to mana also matters, since using skills needs mana.

The higher affinity you have with mana, the better you can manipulate it and the faster your skill cast time is. Mostly, attunement to mana is a racial trait, with elves and dragons topping the chart, but some people in other races are born with great mana affinity out of luck.

Vampires are ranked mid in mana affinity on a racial level, but it doesn't matter... Every race can absorb mana from nature, mana stones, or mana-rich resources, but vampires have one advantage: absorbing mana from blood very efficiently.

'Luna, what's my mana affinity?' He hadn't seen anything like that in his system.

[It's impossible to predict unless you absorb mana]

'I see'

'You wanted mana, right?'

[Yes, Master. I can't do anything without it]

'Can't you absorb it from nature?'

[Actually, I can't, Master. But if you hold a mana stone in your hand, then I can absorb it directly through you]

'Mana stone, I see'

Asher began thinking about mana. Every rank has some amount of mana they are born with. This differs from race to race.

Humans have the lowest, while dragons have the highest.

But humans are resourceful. They have found a way to use blood essence of higher race beings to increase their mana pools. It is somewhat similar to how vampires use blood.

It's just that humans don't drink it but fuse with it in some way they have developed, becoming half-blooded races with the blood essence of the being they absorbed.

Well, it's just the mana pool at the racial level. Every rank increase multiplies the mana pool multiple times.

So increasing rank is the most important factor, as your rank is what truly defines your strength.

There is only one way to increase your rank: it is to absorb mana. There are two ways to do it. One is from nature, which is very slow — even for those who have higher affinity with mana, much less the weaker ones.

Absorbing mana to increase rank is different from what your original mana pool is. It's like pushing your limits by absorbing an extra amount of mana.

The second way is to absorb mana from the mana core or mana stones.

He looked towards the center of his chest. If what he just understood from the knowledge is correct, then he has a mana core inside there, and this is where all his mana is stored right now.
