Chapter 299: The Reason
Yes, that being was Necrozma, or rather, Necrozma without losing its body and core.
In fact, all the clues pointed to Necrozma. First, there was the initial encounter with Necrozma, the primal power that the system couldn't scan, then its ferocious nature, and then a whole host of other things all pointed to Necrozma.
Why couldn't the pitch-black figure in the vision show its form? It was because it was constantly absorbing the energy of light. Humans can see objects and colors because light shines on objects, and the corresponding color of light is reflected into the eyes, allowing us to see.
If light is constantly absorbed, then only blackness is seen. Necrozma absorbed a large amount of light, which is why a black mist formed around it. And the inscription on the plates mentioned light and darkness, and something about "one or two," and "not to be trusted," roughly meaning that Necrozma was divided into two, with both light and darkness existing within it, and it couldn't be completely trusted.
In fact, there's another crucial clue that has already revealed Necrozma's identity: its name, Necrozma, means "prism" in Greek. The "Arc" in Arceus comes from "archaic" or "architect," representing the original creator.
Arceus also mentioned that Necrozma shattered, with a part of its body forming those things. Those things refer to the Z-Crystals in Ryan's possession. In the games, the Z-Crystal, like the Plates, can be used by all Pokémon and can also alter Arceus's type. This suggests that the Z-Crystal and the Plates may share a common origin. This origin means that both Arceus and Necrozma are beings born from this world, thus sharing a common root; their ultimate forms are all-type beings!
Later, without restrictions, Necrozma in the main world faced resistance from the Legendary Pokémon, led by Mew. Severely injured and with its body shattered, Necrozma's power greatly diminished, and it was defeated by the Legendary Pokémon. However, the Legendary Pokémon also suffered heavy losses, with many perishing.
Even in defeat, Necrozma successfully escaped the battlefield and retreated to another dimension to heal its wounds. Its shattered body fragments scattered throughout the Alola region, forming Z-Crystals.
Larger pieces were sealed away by the combined efforts of the Legendary Pokémon. Later, unaware of the full story, they believed Arceus had failed in its duties and banished the weakened Arceus from its throne. Arceus, deeply remorseful for its previous neglect of Necrozma, willingly remained sealed there to atone for its mistakes.
The Legendary Pokémon who knew some of the details, while not as hostile as those who were unaware, still resented Arceus's inaction; for example, Mew had previously warned Arceus not to forget its sins.
"I shattered Necrozma's core, so its power can't be stored for long. It gradually weakens with each use, which is the best outcome. However, I've discovered traces of Necrozma in recent decades. It seems it destroyed many worlds, dragging fragments into its own space and using the power of those Legendary Pokémon to restore its strength.
With the gradually recovered body fragments, Necrozma is very likely to return. That's why I'm placing my hopes on you, Ryan. If it really returns, I hope you can return the Plates to me," Arceus said.
"I can return them to you now. But there are still a few fragments missing. As for the Draco Plate and the Pixie Plate, we have no clue whatsoever," Ryan said.
"No need, you can't give them to me now. We are connected by a common source. If I'm weak, it will be weak too. If all my power returns, it can quickly recover. I already used the Splash Plate's power once to free it; I can't let it continue on its easy path. So, please don't give me the Plates now," Arceus said.
Arceus's words resolved a question that had been troubling Ryan: why were they attacked by Necrozma as soon as they entered the Ultra Wormhole? Logically, Necrozma, sealed within Ultra Megalopolis, shouldn't have been able to break free.
However, according to Arceus, the two were connected. Arceus had used the power of the Splash Plate, which greatly increased Necrozma's strength, allowing it to instantly break free and hide in Ultra Space. When Ryan and his companions entered Ultra Space, Necrozma directly attacked them, aiming for Ryan's Solgaleo and Solgaleo's Z-Crystal.
Arceus also mentioned that Necrozma had been trying to regain its strength. Cosmog was its solution; for Cosmog to evolve into Solgaleo or Lunala, besides its level, it needed to absorb light energy. Ryan recalled Solgaleo's frantic absorption of sunlight energy during its evolution, which was actually to store energy within its body. This way, when Necrozma parasitized it, it could instantly obtain a large amount of energy to supply its needs.
This was also Necrozma's scheme. After all, it had completely devoured the light of Ultra Megalopolis. Without light, the power within Solgaleo and Lunala in Ultra Megalopolis was far too weak to meet Necrozma's requirements. Therefore, when it was still the Blinding One, it had the inhabitants of Ultra Megalopolis send a Cosmog to Alola every so often to gather a large number of energetic Solgaleo and Lunala for its own consumption.
After parasitizing Solgaleo and Lunala, using a portion of their previous body fragments, namely Necrozma Z-Crystals, they can restore themselves to Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings form. Then, they can find the missing part of their body, stabilize Ultra Necrozma form, then seize the body sealed by the Legendary Pokémon, and finally retrieve the core shattered by Arceus, allowing it to return to its former glory!
After Arceus finished explaining, Ryan fell silent, then said, "Necrozma should still be sealed in Ultra Megalopolis, and probably can't escape for the time being, right?"
"That space was created by it. Do you think it could be sealed in its own space? That's just a smokescreen. I've also learned about that sealing device from you; it does weaken it, but it's only a fragmented form. If it were to return to its original state,
you'd need hundreds of them to be effective. Don't pin your hopes on these things; improving your own strength is the right thing to do. If you really want to help, first get your Pokémon to the level of a creator deity. Legendary Pokémon are nothing more than pawns compared to beings like us," Arceus said calmly.
After chatting with Ryan for a while longer, Arceus said wearily, "Go back first. You know everything you need to know. Don't think about anything else. Necrozma won't be able to get out for at least two or three years. Domino, send him back. Then you can go with him."
After saying this, Arceus closed its eyes and began to rest. Ryan, led by Domino, left this space and returned to the high sky.
"Still not enough. You need to become stronger quickly. Otherwise, this really will be the last battle..."
