Chapter 31 - Beat ²⁷ ★Detective Leo☆

Detective Leo

The next morning, Leo woke up wondering why Ren hadn't told him anything about his job at *Light*

They met almost every day, but Ren had never mentioned working anywhere.

What are you hiding from me?

Why do you have to work in that place?

You don't need to be a barista… what's the real reason behind this job?

Leo's thoughts kept circling

Ren's face and lifestyle didn't match that kind of work at all

He wanted to ask, but he couldn't tell him he had seen him last night

He hadn't even dared to say he had gone to *Light* because he knew very well how Ren would react.

I will call him, Leo thought.

And he dialed right away.

On the other side, Ren was completely exhausted, barely getting out of bed

He wanted to sleep all day without anyone disturbing him.

But then the phone rang

As soon as he saw Leo's name, he answered immediately.

— Morning, my cute devil… he whispered with a sleepy voice.

— Don't call me that! Leo shouted, almost breaking his ear.

— Did you miss me? Ren asked, though deep down he felt a small spark of happiness.

Leo rolled his eyes and spoke in an annoyed tone:

— Stop with the sweet talk and tell me, where were you last night?

I texted you, but you didn't answer.

— Ah, last night? I was… at home.

I went to bed early, so I didn't text you.

I mean, how could I text you while I was sleeping?

Ren said with an awkward smile, a smile that clearly betrayed his lie

.

— Hmm… so you won't tell me, huh?

Then I'll find out myself, Leo thought, and hung up, throwing the phone onto the couch.

— Hello? Hello? Ren kept saying, but there was no answer.

He looked at his phone and realized Leo had ended the call.

— Oh, why is he upset now? he murmured, lying back down to sleep.

Ren didn't want to tell him about his job yet. It was still too soon

He didn't want to reveal too much of his life right away.

First, he wanted Leo to be deeply attached to him, and only then he would share everything.

Meanwhile, an idea popped into Leo's head.

Let me meet Smart, he thought, imagining himself as a detective.

On the other side, Smart was also feeling drained

His legs hurt, and his head was pounding

By midday, he was still lying in bed.

Then his phone lit up.

It was Leo

Curious, he grabbed it quickly.

— Morning, Smart. Are you free to meet today?

Smart replied right away:

— Yes, of course.

Even though he wondered if there was a hidden reason behind this invitation, he still liked the idea of spending time with Leo.

A moment later, another message appeared:

— Send me your location

I'll come pick you up.

Smart sent his address and rushed to get ready

Zoi had already prepared breakfast and left for school.

With one hand he ate, with the other he tied his sneakers

He quickly threw on a hoodie and some baggy jeans, then went downstairs. His hair was messy, so he pulled the hood over his head.

Leo arrived, picked him up, and deliberately drove him to Jin's work location

Smart almost froze with amazement at the view.

The whole area had a modern and elegant atmosphere.

Fashionable stores stood side by side, their windows filled with trendy clothes and the newest accessories

Between the shops were small cozy cafés with outdoor tables, full of people calmly enjoying their coffee.

Everything looked enchanting — a perfect mix of modern style and old-world charm that made you fall in love with the place.

— Wow… this is so beautiful! I've never been here before, Smart said, his eyes wide with excitement.

Leo smiled, put his arm around Smart's shoulder, and said:

— From now on, I'll bring you here more often. Come on, let's sit down.

Leo ordered an iced americano, while Smart chose a latte macchiato

Leo chuckled to himself: He likes sweet things… just like he is.

After a little small talk, Leo finally approached the question that was bothering him.

— Smart, don't you study anymore? he asked.

Smart laughed awkwardly.

— I dropped out halfway through my studies. A shadow of sadness crossed his eyes.

— But I didn't go back home because my sister is still in school.

Leo understood something had gone wrong with his studies, so he didn't press further

— And now? What do you do? Do you have a job? he asked, playing with his glass

At that moment, Smart remembered Ren's warning:

"If Leo ever asks you about my work or anything, avoid it."

Even though the question wasn't directly about Ren, Smart decided to avoid it anyway.

— I've done some part-time jobs, but now I'm looking for a full-time job, he said, sipping his coffee nervously, knowing he wasn't telling the truth

Leo looked at him suspiciously: You're not going to tell me, huh?

Ren definitely taught you to hide things.

Meanwhile, Smart, trying to change the subject, looked across the street at a hip-hop clothing store: colorful hoodies, fashion posters, sports bags, and shiny accessories that lit up his eyes.

Leo noticed the sparkle and suddenly had an idea. He stood up quickly.

— What's wrong? Smart asked, confused.

Leo smiled and said:

— Get up! Let's go find your new job.

He took a deep breath and grinned to himself, convinced that his plan was finally coming together.

After Scene:

Ren was half-asleep when his phone buzzed. It was Smart.

"Hey Ren — Leo asked about my job, but I dodged it. He was really trying to find out about you."

Ren shook his head and murmured,

"Heh… Leo…"

Then snuggled back into his blanket, drifting off again.
