Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Utterly Ridiculous Functions - 1

"Let's go through this one by one, based on how ridiculous they are," he muttered with a frustrated expression.

He had never seen anything like this before.

If the information about the functions of the Codex that Dex had sent to his mind was true, then this Codex of Creation was probably the most powerful thing not just in the universe, but possibly one of the most powerful artifacts in the entire cosmos.

Well, that would be the case if he were to unlock all of its functions.

But even with just the five functions he had access to, it was already on that level.

Right now, he had unlocked five functions of the Codex of Creation, and every single one of them was incredibly powerful in its own way.

"Function Four: Parallel Mind... I assume it refers to you, the consciousness I'm speaking to, since the Codex was summoned?" Ethan asked.

"Intriguing," Ethan murmured, rubbing his chin as he glanced at Kagetsu, who was already asleep.

"Can you analyze my Kagetsu?"

Ethan did as instructed and looked at Kagetsu.

Using his vision as a conduit, the Codex began to analyze her.

While it analyzed, the Codex floated in front of him, opening on its own as its pages flipped rapidly.

It stopped at a particular page, strange and mysterious symbols filling the parchment in golden light.

Similar to a system prompt, golden letters on a jet-black screen appeared in his mind.

"Now that's amazing," Ethan muttered.

After the analysis, the Codex displayed every bit of information about Kagetsu directly in his mind, from her abilities to the size of her eyes.

Everything was listed in perfect detail.

"With this, as long as I can see a target, I can access all their information..." Ethan's eyes gleamed with excitement.

"Next up, Function Five: Energy Restoration. It's pretty straightforward," Ethan nodded.

"As long as you have access to the energy that I'm cultivating, you can absorb it and replenish my reserves whenever I exhaust them."

"Another ridiculous function," Ethan muttered.

"With this, I basically have infinite energy. But that doesn't mean I can unleash highly powerful techniques that require massive amounts of energy, because this only grants me insanely fast regeneration, not infinite reserves."

"So, while my energy regeneration is near-limitless, I'm still bound by the cap of my energy pool. In short, I can use techniques of my current level at full effectiveness indefinitely."

"Next up, Function Three: Integration. It's pretty self-explanatory, too," Ethan continued.

"Anything that can possibly be assimilated by me falls under this function, which brings me to my most important question." Ethan's eyes narrowed.

"The Integration function seems to be closely linked to Function Two: Creation. And the Creation function is simple. I can create anything as long as I have sufficient Karma for it."

"Creation... does it really mean I can create anything?" Ethan asked again, just to confirm.

"Then, is it possible for me to use this function to create things like bloodlines, abilities, constitutions, or even entire races, like werewolves, and then use the Integration function to assimilate them into myself?" Ethan asked slowly, almost hoping the answer would be no.

He truly hoped it wasn't the case, because if it was, that would be absurd beyond belief. Just the implications alone were staggering.

"This..." Ethan fell to the floor, his legs suddenly weak.

He couldn't believe it, but it was the truth.

His reality.

As ridiculous as it sounded.

The ability to create and assimilate anything that was godlike.

Just think about it.

He could create supernatural abilities, divine resources, constitutions, and racial traits; the list went on endlessly.

At that moment, countless possibilities raced through his mind.

It was too much.

He didn't even know where to start.

Ethan sat up straight, forcing himself to calm his thoughts.

"Okay, I should take things slowly. Just because I have a powerful tool doesn't mean everything will go my way. I still have to be careful, more than ever, and steadily master its full potential," Ethan muttered.

"Before that, I still have one more question."

"You said enemies were seeking me out to kill me before the Codex transported me. Aren't you afraid they'll come after me again?" Ethan asked.

"I understand, and you're right, I can protect myself," Ethan muttered as he took out nine differently colored crystals from his bag, each about as big as three finger joints.

They were Elemental Qi Crystals he had bought from the Sect shop for study purposes, something he often did.

He had spent 4,000 gold on them.

Not much compared to his total wealth, but still a hefty amount for nine mere energy crystals.

They were small and didn't contain a high concentration of energy.

Sect members typically used them for cultivation since these crystals held specific elemental Qi.

The entire crystal could be absorbed at a complete absorption rate, unlike drawing energy from the environment where all Qi elements were mixed.

The only problem was their cost, which was painfully high.

The ones Ethan bought were the lowest of the low, yet even those were considered quite expensive.

He hadn't bought the pricier ones despite having enough gold; he didn't want to draw too much attention to himself right from the start.

After all, it hadn't even been a full week since he arrived in this world.

Ethan grabbed the flaming red crystal in his hand with a grin. "Let's create something then."

"I want to create Fire Qi affinity and use the integration function to give myself Fire Qi affinity... is it possible?"

"50,000,000 Karma Points..." Ethan muttered, suddenly thinking of the function: Karma Harvest.

It was a pretty straightforward ability.

Karma was an inaccessible essence that everyone carried.

It was generated from every deed, every action, every choice, every soul you killed, every soul you gave birth to, and every consequence of your existence.

Everything produced karma.

It could be positive or negative, but regardless of its nature, the Codex of Creation could access and harvest it as Karma Energy, which it used as its source of power.

As for the karma currently in Ethan's balance, it had been accumulated over his previous 105 lives.

The Codex had harvested all the karma produced by his actions and deeds, as well as those generated by the consequences of his actions and deeds.

Even Ethan was surprised to discover he possessed such an immense amount of karma.

Since karma was bound to the soul, it always followed until the very end, until the soul was purged before reincarnation after death.
