Chapter 153 - The Slug Immortal’s Test

"Is it really that exaggerated?" Uchiha Shigure asked, still skeptical.

"Yes. My split bodies are scattered throughout Shikkotsu Forest and even into the surrounding ocean. You could visit my main body at any time," the Slug Sage said plainly.

"…Alright, I'll take your word for it," Shigure replied, wiping a few beads of sweat from his forehead.

"So… what's the fourth ability?" he asked.

"The fourth—also the most important—is an extension of my splitting ability," explained the Slug Sage. "It includes several more detailed functions.

"First: each split body shares my vision, can transfer chakra between them, and transmit information instantly. After all, each part is a living piece of me."

Shigure nodded. He had seen this trick before—during Pain's assault on Konoha, and in the Fourth Great Ninja War, the slugs used this networked healing and communication flawlessly.

"Second: any of my split bodies can be teleported by a summoner to a chosen location, as long as you can sense it."

"As long as I can sense it? That's all?" Shigure asked.

"Yes. You can think of it as marking a target—your sensory powers locate the place, and my own sensing lets me be summoned there in moments," the slug said.

"That's great! It's like my Flying Thunder God Jutsu. I could safeguard everyone's lives, anywhere, instantly."

"That is truly an honor," the Slug Sage said warmly. "I can feel your sensory power—it's exceptional."

"Lastly, I can liquefy—becoming harmless fluid—and then transmit your chakra to others," the slug continued.

Shigure's eyes widened. "Liquefaction… like the Hōzuki clan's Water Release: Hydrification Jutsu?"

"Hmm… I'm unfamiliar with that specific jutsu," admitted the slug. "But yes—you absorb natural energy from water, use a technique to attune yourself to slug physiology, liquefy, and in that form, you can increase allies' chakra, or absorb it from enemies."

Shigure's expression shifted from surprise to awe. He had thought these were purely slug clan abilities—but the Sage was now telling him he could learn them.

"Slug Sage… can I really learn this? I've already mastered Ryūchi Cave's Sage Mode… does that mean the chakra of all three Sage grounds is the same?" Shigure asked urgently.

"There are differences. Sage Mode chakra is chakra transformed by absorbing natural energy—but natural energy contains both balance and distinction. The five basic elements—wind, lightning, water, fire, earth—are all present in different proportions depending on the Sage Land.

"In Mount Myōboku and Ryūchi Cave, natural energy holds more wind, lightning, fire, and earth. But Shikkotsu Forest's energy is mostly water, earth… and wood."

"Wood…" Shigure felt his pulse quicken. Water and earth—together they made wood. Could I gain Wood Release directly?

"Perhaps," the Slug Sage said. "Yet I have never seen someone bear two Sage inheritances at once. What happens… I do not know. First, let us see if you have the ability to learn ours."

"What do you mean?" Shigure asked, puzzled. "I'm here—why wouldn't I be qualified? What's the point of telling me all this otherwise?"

"You misunderstand. I must measure your chakra reserves first. Without enough chakra, summoning my main body could kill you outright. Large-scale healing drains chakra dangerously fast. You could die of exhaustion on the spot."

Shigure touched the Strength of a Hundred Seal on his forehead. "Alright—how do you test it?"

"Simple. Release all your chakra. My sensing will read it instantly," the Sage said with confidence.

"Okay… you'd better hold on," Shigure warned, raising two fingers.

Blue chakra erupted from his body like a wave.

Boom!

The soft earth exploded outward; the forest floor was torn and scattered. A shockwave blasted the clearing bare, a wild storm radiating from Shigure's core.

"What terrifying chakra!" the slug cried. "So young… yet already Kage-level reserves! Truly astounding! This might barely suffice to summon a tenth of my full body."

"Only one-tenth… and barely? Then I need to keep pushing…" Shigure muttered, swallowing hard.

"Lord Shigure, do not underestimate yourself," the slug said gravely. "Even Lady Tsunade at her peak—using the Strength of a Hundred Seal—could summon only a tenth of me, and she is Senju, with naturally greater chakra reserves than most humans."

Shigure's brow furrowed. "…I underestimated myself. Let's try again. That was only one-tenth of my chakra."

"What?!" the slug recoiled. "One-tenth? …Lord Shigure, if you truly have more, show me—use your full power!"

Shigure nodded, and this time poured his strength out. His chakra—already Kage-class—had grown further since absorbing bloodline power from the branch families, making his Otsutsuki heritage more complete.

Light blue energy thickened into solid form around him, a hurricane whipping outward that forced even the Sage's colossal body to slide back.

"This… even Lady Tsunade cannot compare… This young one… his chakra surpasses Kage-level!" the slug said in disbelief. "My own mucus cannot grip the soil… his power is still rising!"

The forest trembled as Shigure's chakra climbed higher—and higher.

"Impossible… there has to be a limit… Who is this person?! His chakra is now enough to summon… seven-tenths of my main body. I never thought anyone like this could exist in our world!"

"You're kidding, right?!" the Slug Sage stared, stunned beyond words.
