Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

"Then let's survive together."

I unknown made a blank face at the middle aged man—does he actually expect me to trust him right away. I mean judging from his face he didn't look like a bad person but it's always the one's who you don't expect that betray.

"Come on there, you don't trust me." He raised his hand and pointed to himself then rose them again in a defensive manner.

With my facial expressions still blank I confirmed his suspensions."No, no I don't."

He let out a breath.

"Ha, it can't be helped. Anyway I'm Adris I don't really think we need last names here so I'm just Adris."

His was right things like last names were kinda useless right now, here. Even names didn't matter now.

I nodded my head as acknowledgement, which seemed to be enough for...ah the man since he smiled.

Ding!

Ding!

[You will be sent to section Z]

[You will be sent to section A]

Both our screen sounded. Seemed I was being sent to section Z. The man who I will now call Andy since I forget his name, I think he won't mind, was being sent to section A.

The parallels were funny so I let out a light chuckle under my breath. Andy noticed and glanced at me.

"Ha, looks like we're on opposite sides of the playing field."

I that instant I felt a warm sensation before I blinked and my surroundings appeared different. Andy was also gone.

[Please proceed]

I began to walk towards the sound of chatter. The path I walked was dim with little to no lighting so flinched back when my face was illuminated by the bright as I entered, as usual no one noticed when I walked it.

[In a moment, you will be granted your capability.]

An ethereal voice echoed.

"Ahh, what... cool."

Voices echoed as people gained abilities. Pure joy and curious actions is all that could be seen.

I thought it was weird, nothing free is actually free so what's the cost here. Although I wanted to ask the question I held back, didn't need to be a target already.

"Um excuse me, why are you giving powers I mean, it's cool but why." I was glad someone from the crowd of people asked the question.

[First of all it's not us and you need to survive and to survive you must survive from something.]

"Survive... survive some what exactly." A woman who looked to have a strong character said clearly not happy about the situation.

[From those around you]

[Have you kill to survive]

The air went silent— everyone had been so distracted with the abilities they gained they forgot to ask why they didn't them.

"And if we don't!" The woman asked.

[Then you die]

People began to panic and shout, running around as if it would do anything. I saw that kid from earlier standing at a corner genuine fear on his face.

"I will not." The woman said, I wondered if she actually meant those words because one can go against their own words any moment, especially when it's a life or death situation.

[ You have 30 minutes]

Beep!

Beep!

Beep!

...

[29:57]

The first couple minutes no one moved. They seemed frozen. Others thought could I take a life it meant I get to live. To others it was a hard decision while it was as drinking water to some.

Before long a scream could be heard. Someone has just killed another person. The man did what he could to survive.

A rampage soon broke out.

The only thing that was one my mind at that moment was not the thought of how that man could kill another but it was the strange fact that I had not gotten a Capability yet.

"Excuse me, um why haven't I gotten a Capability yet."

[That is strange...that has never happened before you should have gotten it already.]

"Well, I didn't so can you fix it." I put my hands together.

[ Sorry we don't control who does or doesn't get a Capabilities, your system is the one]

"But can't you like give me something at least." I begged, I mean people have superpowers and I have nothing, it's clear I will die in this free-for-all.

[Very well]

An object appeared out of thin air and I caught it mid way. My expression darkened when I saw the object.

A long wooden rod that would typically be used for house choirs.

A broom.

A f-ing BROOM!

How am I supposed to defend myself with a broom.

Damn bastards.

[We don't use weapons here since we have our Capabilities. That's all we had]

The voice tried to sound sorry but the only thing I heard was nothing but mocking.

"Ahhh...!" I followed the source of the cry it was that kid and someone was closing up on him.

I needed think, come on think.

Got it.

My footsteps Landed on the ground as I ran as fast as I could towards the child. I down low and grabbed the kid before slipping away right under the man's nose.

"Ahuh."

Kid in one hand—broom in the other. I took a break when I found a good spot to hide away from the rampage.

"Hey, you ok." I said breath taken, this is way I should have done PE in school. The child only nodded once again putting on a brave act.

"So what's your power."

As I said that he touch the ground, black smoke grew from the ground and a shadow rose. It was creepy if I said so but cool non the less. Blood dripped from the kid's nose as he hurriedly whipped it. His ability sure takes a lot from him

"Huh."

Before anything else escaped my mouth we were attacked. A man with a blade for hands. I held the broom up, pushing back against the older man's strength.

I twisted the broom causing it to hit him. Huh, who knew the broom would actually come useful.

Beep!

Beep!

Beep!

[18:13]

The clock kept ticking down. We had less time than we needed. Since our stop was no longer safe, even though it was stupid went into the crowd.

Bodies laid on the ground.

"Look I'm gonna need you to do something for, you up for it." The kid nodded, he touched the ground for a little while. One, two, three... shadows appeared. The longer he did this, the more he fell dizzy before he passed out.

I had managed to summon 3 shadows, which was more than enough.

"Protect us." I commended the shadows.

They ran at top speed heading for the one's who wanted to hurt us. Their combat skills were good enough.

One shadow killed an Emris.

The woman from before was being pinned to the ground. I rushed over. Knocking another woman off her. I don't know why I'm doing this. Maybe because I want to see if she really meant her words.

"Seanna, you." I pulled her up.

"Doesn't matter."

"Ok then, I won't press."

We were back-to-back—me with a broom, her with her lightening abilities.

Beep?

Beep!

Beep!

[13:12]

"We don't have a lot of time." She said the obvious.

I nodded before we separated. Someone bumped into me, sending me flying and hitting a wall. I felt a warm sensation flow down my forehead. I touch it to see it was blood. My vision became blurred.

A black clad figure stood in front of me." Ahh I'd hate to do this especially to a kid but it has to be done. You understand don't you, you gotta do what you gotta do if you want to live." He said.

"Why are you protecting him."

"Because he still has more to live for"

"You would sacrifice your own life for that punny pest."

"Yes I would." I hit him with the edge of the broom. He was down but then up again. "Haha, nice try." He pinned me down with one hand as steel wires came from behind his back.

They travel close to my eyes as I stared at them. Right then I saw the broken broom, I grabbed it and ran it through his head. His screams echoed as his blood fell on my face.

I pushed his body to the side. I had trouble getting up but I grabbed the other broken piece of the broom.

Beep!

Beep!

Beep!

[10:54]

I made my way to where I had left the kid protected my his shadows. I picked him up and carried him.

It had settled down since not many people were still breathing.
