Chapter 54 Fierce Battle, Radiant Ye Ling!
"This elite-class wolf demon finally couldn't hold back!"
"It's been sent down personally by its boss, ready to make a move. Perfect. Let me see just how strong a seventh-rank beast, equivalent to a sixth-order powerhouse, really is, and whether I can hold my ground." Ye Ling thought to himself, a faint smile curling on his lips.
"Ye Ling-ge, do you need me to help?" Cai'er asked softly, having heard his words.
"I probably won't be its match, but keeping myself from defeat isn't a problem. I'll fight it for a while. If I need you, I'll call you." Ye Ling replied calmly.
Cai'er nodded and said no more. She moved off to another part of the battlefield to engage her own foes.
Ye Ling drew in a deep breath, put away the twin daggers, and from his spiritual space retrieved the Angelic Holy Sword. "Still feels better to fight with a sword."
With those words, he planted the blade into the ground. At once, terrifying waves of light-element energy surged forth in all directions, carrying immense killing power.
"Divine Domain Ascension!"
This divine domain technique resembled the Ascension Array, but required far greater spiritual power and unleashed far more devastating force.
Within a radius of ten meters, wolf demons were blasted away instantly. When they hit the ground, they were already lifeless, their breath gone.
"Fifth order?" The yellow-furred wolf demon stared at Ye Ling, shocked. It wasn't the deaths of his worthless subordinates that shook him—they could always be replaced—but rather the boy's age and power, which seemed impossible to reconcile.
Then, after a moment's thought, he licked his lips. A genius—perfect. Killing geniuses was his favorite pastime. The sense of achievement was utterly different from slaughtering common villagers.
With no hesitation, he lunged at Ye Ling, claws gleaming. His talons, harder than most forged weapons, were his pride.
"To die under my claws—human genius or not—will be your greatest honor!"
The beast roared, slashing down toward the Angelic Holy Sword. But instead of shattering the blade as he expected, unimaginable pain coursed back through his arm.
A crushing power rebounded from the holy sword into his body. His arm went numb, then throbbed with searing pain. In the next instant, his claw split apart, the entire hand tearing free and falling heavily to the ground with a loud crash.
The sight left the wolf demon stunned, jaws gaping in disbelief. What was this?
A mere fifth-order knight? Wielding a weapon of radiant legend?
What trick was this supposed to be?
But the agony in his arm pulled him back to reality. Blood streamed from the ruined limb, dripping steadily onto the ground. Rage flared in his eyes as he glared furiously at Ye Ling.
"I originally planned to tear you apart with a single claw and leave you barely whole — to spite the Knight Temple. But now? Don't expect to live; I'll eat you raw!"
With that, the panicked wolf demon charged at Ye Ling. This time it did not swipe but attempted to unleash its suppressive spiritual power.
"Light!" Ye Ling uttered, voice calm.
A dazzling aura of brilliance erupted from him, rising skyward in a boundless surge that forced everyone to shield their eyes against its radiance.
When the light subsided, Ye Ling stood clad in a resplendent suit of spirit armor suffused with sacred energy. This was Ye Ling's character spirit armor: Light. From now on, he might well be called Radiant Ye Ling.
His presence swelled; Ye Ling's aura became terrifyingly potent. Instructor Balza and the Odin attendants stared in stunned silence, unable to comprehend the scene.
To them it looked like a god of light had manifested.
"You can be flashy all you like, but die now!" The yellow-furred wolf demon lunged in fury, only to find itself blocked by the radiance spilling from Ye Ling, sealed away by the armor's field.
That was one of the breastplate's functions. A glorious-tier skill capable of withstanding accumulated attacks exceeding four thousand points of spiritual force.
"You still think you can stop me?" the wolf demon snarled, then froze as realization dawned. This armor—this whole set—was glorious-tier. Ten pieces, perhaps more.
"What connection is this? Even seventh- or eighth-order knights seldom possess one glorious-tier item, let alone a dozen!" The beast's fighting spirit waned; fear crept in.
It readied to withdraw after breaking the chestplate, but turning, it found a cold, indifferent girl standing there. Her face was grim, and a cruel smile touched her lips as she whispered, "Pierce!"
From head to toe she donned a spirit armor imbued with a chilling samsara aura. Even this veteran of corpses and blood felt fear upon seeing Cai'er.
If Ye Ling was the lofty god of light to pass judgment, then Cai'er was the grim reaper, tallying sins and delivering souls to the abyss.
The pressure was overwhelming.
"Damn you. If you block me, I'll slaughter you all!" the yellow-furred wolf demon roared, his aura surging. He was a seventh-rank beast, blessed by the Demon Wolf God with a Pillar of Demon Power. He refused to believe he could be defeated.
But he had not expected to face these two terrifying existences.
