Once Jack, Barbossa, Sakazuki, White and the others had moved a safe distance away, The Jackdaw became the sole target of every warship.
And Davy Jones's sea monster was still watching with hungry eyes.
Yet Fang Yuan showed no panic; beneath his mask he smiled faintly.
Spreading both arms, he sent a sudden gale howling across The Jackdaw, and the huge hull slowly rose, leaping skyward above the water before the giant squid could reach it.
Surprised? Grandpa can fly!
The Jackdaw that soars to heaven and plumbs the earth—Edward the Necromancer, scratch that—make it the Black Emperor.
Since it's called The Jackdaw, it ought to live up to the name.
This was Fang Yuan's ultimate application of this World's sorcery: The Jackdaw could not only fly but also sail beneath the waves.
Of course, that set a high bar for the crew; luckily, Fang Yuan had arcane tools to protect himself.
Ordinary folk like Sakazuki and White had to be reassigned to other ships.
Now the entire crew of The Jackdaw consisted of undead warriors cursed by Aztec gold coins—an almost perfect match for the vessel.
"The Flying Dutchman? Let's hope you can actually fly," Fang Yuan muttered.
Davy Jones's mutation had indeed disrupted his plans, but overall it was fine; Davy Jones and Beckett joining forces would surely target pirates, aligning perfectly with Fang Yuan's larger goal—
to make the situation explode and amplify its influence.
Calypso, however, was a real problem; the sea goddess would pressure the pirates to break her seal.
Only when the Nine Pirate Lords could bear it no longer would they agree to release her to fight the navy.
Take Calypso out early?
Fang Yuan shook his head; he wasn't sure that would kill the sea goddess, and it probably wouldn't.
Yet on second thought, Calypso's meddling might not be a bad thing.
The bigger the mess, the better for Fang Yuan.
Besides, Beckett had a mole at his side; every move of the navy was known to Fang Yuan.
As the saying goes: enemies are resources too.
Of course, Fang Yuan figured he still needed some counter-measures against Calypso's interference.
"To deal with a sea god, you need another sea god." Moments later he set his target.
The trident of poseidon!
The artifact belonged to the sea god Poseidon; though Calypso was also a sea deity, she surely paled beside the chief god.
As long as she remained sealed, the ocean-controlling trident should handle her.
The navy's upcoming anti-pirate campaign would buy Fang Yuan time to hunt for the treasure.
And he didn't even have to search for it himself.
Another warship set sail from London Port.
"Will, take care—come back safe!" a nobly dressed Mary called from the shore.
"I will!" Will Turner replied.
Dressed in a naval uniform, the Commodore's insignia on his shoulder gleamed.
"See? I told you Will was doing well," Fang Yuan said to Old Turner.
Old Turner, dazed, nodded hurriedly.
Now restored to normal, the barnacles had vanished after Davy Jones abandoned him as a crewman.
The smile never left Old Turner's face; his boy, once fated to be a mere merchant sailor, had been rescued by Fang Yuan and trained into a naval Commodore with a noble lady throwing herself at him—pure knightly-novel stuff.
"Come on, let's go see them," Fang Yuan said, patting Old Turner's shoulder.
Compared with the first-rate ship-of-the-line Effort, Will Turner's flagship George was smaller—about a second- or third-rater.
Yet with that name no one dared underestimate her.
George: the very name of the current king.
That showed how well Will Turner was doing.
But as the film's protagonist—a man who could endure going ashore only once every ten years—Will's first priority was still to free his father.
Not long after George left London Port, Will descended to the Captain's cabin where two men already waited.
"Mr. Fang Yuan!" Will exclaimed in delight, then looked past him to a familiar face.
"Father!" He rushed over and hugged Old Turner tightly; Bill Turner wept, repeating, "I'm sorry, so sorry!"
Old Turner bitterly regretted turning pirate, which had separated him from his son for so many years.
As Jack said, he was a good man but a poor pirate; he should've stayed an honest merchant sailor.
"It's all right, you're back—that's what matters!" Will, overjoyed to see his father unharmed, quickly asked Fang Yuan, "Has Father broken the curse?"
He remembered Fang Yuan telling him that Old Turner, trapped aboard The Flying Dutchman, could only be freed by the trident of poseidon.
"We found Davy Jones's heart. To keep you from risking your life, your father stole the key from Jones at mortal peril. We used the heart to force Jones to lift the curse on him," Fang Yuan explained.
"Father, that was far too dangerous!"
Will was terrified; if they'd been discovered, Old Turner would never have come back.
Yet at the same time Will felt warmth—his father's love for him still burned hot.
"Still, thank heavens—Dad, you're finally safe!" Will shot Fang Yuan a grateful look; His Majesty the Black Emperor had done far too much for their family.
But Fang Yuan shook his head. "Though William is free of The Flying Dutchman, Jones is also free of the heart's hold on him—he definitely won't let this rest."
Will's heart clenched. "Then what do we do?" he blurted.
He'd only just reunited with his father; he couldn't bear to lose him again.
"The trident of poseidon. If I obtain it I can break Jones's curse outright, and William will be safe," Fang Yuan said.
"Good!" Will nodded firmly. "I'll find it!"
Fang Yuan wasn't surprised; the Turner clan was famous for devoted fathers and sons—Will would be highly motivated.
"Legend says the trident lies in Poseidon's tomb; I've found you a guide," Fang Yuan added.
Old Turner nodded. "The black pearl. Captain Jack has a magical compass that points toward whatever a man desires most."
"Pirates?"
Will had naturally heard of the Black Pearl—he was a navy man, after all.
"No problem!" He nodded without hesitation.
What was a little cooperation with pirates? His greatest benefactor was a pirate himself.
Fang Yuan was pleased with the Turners' obedient attitude; he'd entrusted them with the vital quest for the trident because they were among the few true good guys in the pirates of the caribbean saga.
Given Fang Yuan's great favor, they'd never dream of keeping the trident for themselves.
And to ensure Old Turner's escape from danger ended happily, both Turners would keep a tight rein on Jack so he couldn't mess things up.
As for why Fang Yuan didn't go himself—
naturally he had something of his own to find.
Besides, with the navy-and-pirate showdown imminent, he couldn't really get away.
Thus, only days after the George sailed into the deep Atlantic, Commodore Will—through brilliant command—captured the Black Pearl fleeing the Caribbean Sea.
Along with Captain Jack himself.
Will Turner then threatened Jack into leading them to a sea treasure to present to King George II.
In full daylight the George sailed openly alongside the Black Pearl, arousing no suspicion at all.
So Jack, bewildered, became the most comfortable of the Nine Pirate Lords of late.
These nine are the ones who sealed Calypso; Black Emperor Fang Yuan isn't among them—he's an Emperor of the Sea.
Because Lord Beckett and Davy Jones have joined forces to wipe out pirates.
Beckett wants every pirate gone; Jones simply wants to crush the Black Emperor.
Jones will remember the insult of being Fang Yuan's dog for the rest of his life.
He's clearly an octopus… Because the Black Emperor's Jackdaw can fly, neither navy nor Jones can track Fang Yuan, so they start cutting down other Pirate Lords.
With the two of them allied, pirates who once roamed the seas now suffer calamity.
First to be hit was the Atlantic Pirate Lord—Joekard.
A black Pirate Lord, easily guessed to be of Black Slaves origin.
With a 3,600-gold bounty, he once haunted the routes between the Americas and the British Isles, but the rise of the Black Emperor Pirates left him no business in the Atlantic; he retreated to ravage the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi basin.
No choice—the Black Emperor monopolized the easy merchant prey, leaving others only hard bones that usually came with navy escort. Joekard had to relocate.
Unable to find the Black Emperor fleet, the closest target—Joekard—was pummeled by the Effort squadron and The Flying Dutchman.
In the end Joekard abandoned part of his fleet and fled with his crews to Shipwreck Island.
This hidden pirate stronghold is a vast, near-impregnable fortress; once pirates hide here, even Beckett can do nothing.
He doesn't even know where Shipwreck Island is.
Not that he currently needs to.
After sweeping local pirate Joekard, Beckett was emboldened and set sail for other seas.
With Davy Jones guiding them, the Indian Ocean Lord Sambhaji, the Mediterranean Lord Chevalle, the Black Sea Lord Ammand and others were soon defeated, all fleeing to Shipwreck Island.
The remaining Pirate Lords could sit still no longer; they too hurried to Shipwreck Island to plan counter-measures.
While Beckett scoured the oceans, Fang Yuan reached his own destination—
Whitecap Bay.
The very place where, in pirates of the caribbean 4, the Fountain of Youth lies.
Fang Yuan stepped onto the island, looked around, and suddenly remembered something.
"Seems there are Mermaids here."
