Chapter 13 - The transparent man

Beatrice turned her head, ready to rush to Jacob's side as soon as he fell to the ground.

While Jacob and Drake both made their final attempts at ending the creature, draining them of the little amounts of divinity they had left. Beatrice stayed behind, saving up the divinity she had left for this specific purpose. To heal them.

However, before she could even move to Jacob's side she felt a chilling presence in the vicinity. It felt sinister and evil to her, much like the creature they had just took down, just on a much greater scale.

Although there was no domineering divinity restricting her movements this time, she still found it hard to move even a muscle.

It was due to the divinity, that much was obvious. Unlike last time, in this instance she wasn't moving out of her own free will. She didn't dare to move, this feeling was familiar to her.

Manther!

Sweat streamed down her face as she had flashbacks of Manther's death. This feeling that had her teetering on the edge of a mental break down.

It was fear…

Drake felt this too, but it was to a lesser degree. For Beatrice, it came from a deep psychological wound. Perhaps caused by how weak she felt when as watched Manther die just a day ago.

Drake stood up with great difficulty, after he had fallen to one knee after the battle with the creature who laid on the floor.

That horrifying presence came from it's still corpse. After a few seconds of watching the creature's fallen body silently, something floated out of it.

It was a person, however the person had a transparent body that floated in the air with no help from the wind or gravity element.

This was an unusual sight.

Drake lifted his scarf took a battle ready stance again. His sweater was torn to shreds, leaving his upper body naked.

A spirit? Wasn't this a creature of divinity? How does it have a spirit?

The transparent man had a gentlemanly look to him. His brown hair was combed back, with clear, vibrant skin and blue eyes. He was slender and tall, wearing a luxurious suit that usually only people of nobility could be seen wearing.

He looked young. Around 23 to 26 years old and wore a gentle smile on his face.

"This young lad… all of you. You're truly gifted individuals."

He spoke with calm grace as if addressing young students of his. This allowed Beatrice to calm down a little, greatly confused by this sudden turn of events.

"Who…what are you?"

Drake kept his guard up as he spoke to the transparent man who was clearly levitating before him.

"We will speak once you find me. I will be in my resting place. I look forward to meeting you all, but do hurry, I have not much longer left in this world."

As he spoke, his already transparent body started slowly fading away from his right side to his left.

"What makes you think we'd even come looking for you? What makes you think we'd trust whatever it is you're trying to lure us into?!"

Beatrice spoke, an annoyed tone clearly taking over her demeanor.

Before the transparent man faded out completely, he smiled slightly again turning his head to look at the unconscious Jacob who laid on the ground.

"This young man is lost. The Almighty Lord will guide him, but he will need assistance staying on the right path. Both of you, be that assistance."

Then, he disappeared.

He ignored my question. Does he think we'd trust something with such a dark and sinister presence?

Beatrice walked over to Jacob's side while she silently thought to herself.

"Sit down while I begin treatment on Jacob. It might take a while."

After she spoke she gently placed both of her palms onto Jacob's face causing his bloody face to turn even paler. Then the temperature of his body started dropping quickly until he was frozen over completely, his entire body encased in a large block ice.

She looked at him with a very concerned look as she finally let go of the huge slab of ice.

His divinity… even amongst the highest levels of humans of divinity, even compared to those close to advancing. It's just too much.

She shook her head slightly. She was clearly in deep thought.

But that's not what's bothering me here. How was he able to fight in such a critical condition. How was he able to use the fourth shift when his divinity was clearly low from all these constant battles he faced.

Her eyebrows furrowed, her eyes narrowing as she stared at the large block of ice that had Jacob in it.

Why was he so excellent at warrior's combat? Why… why were his flames black?

So many questions plagued her, so many mysteries left unanswered. She yearned to know more, to understand what it was that she had just witnessed from the young man, but getting answers to her questions… this was the least of her problems.

She turned her head to look at Drake and spoke calmly, her gaze clearly not really focused on him.

"Come closer, let me take a look at your injuries."

Drake stood up, staggering as he walked over to Beatrice who hid the fact that she enjoyed the sight of him struggling to walk toward her.

He knelt down in front of her with a pained expression and turned his head to silently watch the young boy inside a block of ice.

When Beatrice saw this, she looked at him her expression turning somber.

"I noticed."

Drake kept his gaze fixed on the block of ice in front of him when he heard her speak, only replying without looking at her.

"What do you mean? What did you notice?"

She stole a quick glance at Drake, then she turned her head to face Jacob once more— speaking in a calm tone.

"The way you treat him. They way you speak to him, even the way you look at him."

She paused, her eyes narrowing once again.

"He's powerful, extremely so. Perhaps one of the strongest in the class of divinity. But I doubt he'd be stronger than you? What makes you treat him this way?"

Drake silently listened to her as she spoke, healing him, with her ice techniques while she did so.

He took a second before replying to her, his tone; even and flat.

"My master told me to find someone. I'm certain this is him."

He paused once again, a slight smile creeping up his face.

"But I won't explain any of this to you, once I escort you home you'll have other things to worry about."

She froze, obviously very annoyed by Drake's reply.

Why the hell did I even heal him?!

As she thought to herself, she took a step back, glaring at him with a menacing gaze.

"There, all healed!"

Drake stood up, ignoring her cold stare.

"How long will it take until he's ready to go. We can't stay here too long, we're still outside the walls after all."

She looked down at Jacob, nodding her head in agreement to what Drake said.

"I'd hate to run into something this strong again. He should be up in an 2 hours."

Drake's eyes widened after hearing what Beatrice said, visibly shocked.

"2 hours?"

Beatrice is a genius when it comes to the art of healing. She's capable of healing even divine humans. I've seen her heal terrible wounds in minutes, infact it took less than 15 minutes to completely heal me.

What kind of injuries did he suffer in that battle?

Noticing this change in Drake's expression she shifted slightly, her body turning completely to face Jacob again.

"I know, it's long. It's his injuries… he was already in critical condition when we got here. Perhaps even long before we did."

She smiled bitterly showing deep confusion.

"I don't even know how to explain this to you."

Then she shrugged and continued.

"Anyway, even after I'm done he won't be fully healed and back to peak condition."

Drake sat down flat on the ground, then shifted to lay on his back, his red hair blowing in the wind while he gazed at the clouds.

"I guess we'll wait then."
