The name Clara had circled, someone high up and close to Lorenzo... burned in my mind. I had the feeling that everything was connected: the audit, his health, my brother's call.
I glanced at Lorenzo's office, his silhouette hunched over papers, and my heart ached. He was carrying too much alone.
At the morning meeting, Lorenzo stood, his voice firm but strained.
"Today's the audit deadline," he said, addressing the team. "We've identified the source of the discrepancies but I'll handle it personally."
Clara raised a hand. "Sir, should we involve legal? This could escalate."
"Not yet." He shook his head. "I need hard proof first."
His eyes flicked to me, and I scribbled notes, my mind spinning. Who was it? And why was he so guarded?
Afterwards, I cornered Clara by the coffee machine. "Who's the name in the report?" I asked, keeping my voice down. "You said it's someone close to Lorenzo."
