Arin's POV
"I agree."
I said the words, but they weren't mine. I tried to fight back, to scream, but my body was no longer paying attention. My brain was like ice water under the First Alpha's mind control.
"Excellent," rumbled the ancient creature. "Tell your friends to bow down to their new masters, Bridge, now."
My mouth was about to give the order when my hand was abruptly grabbed by something tiny and warm. It was Luna, the star-eyed six-year-old girl. She was glowing brighter than the sun, though, rather than being afraid.
In her small voice, she declared, "Nobody controls my teacher."
Like a soft breeze, a blast of unadulterated light burst from her body and struck me. The First Alpha's hold on my thoughts broke like glass. I stumbled backward, gasping.
"How did you—"
Luna continued to hold my hand as she said, "Children born after the Unity are different. We are able to see and cut the mind control threads."
