Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Power Unleashed

The chains shattered as Asthon rose, lightning crackling around him power surging through every vein. His legs overflowed with energy, ready to propel him faster than ever before.

Strange lines of words flickered across his vision, but he ignored them, his gaze locked on the alien.

As he stared, a circular spot appeared on the alien's upper abdomen with the label [weak point] in his vision.

"What is that?"

Before Asthon could think much further the alien turned, eyes widening at the surge of power and crackling lightning around him.

It was clear the alien was shocked at his power. Maybe the alien might attack him, or worse, harm Krylian before he attacked.

So Asthon didn't waste any time…

Remembering the popular webtoons he used to read before the invasion, he willed the power to move his right fist.

His fist began to glow, a blue energy enveloping it, and lightning crackled around it; the crisp sound of thundering lightning filled the surroundings.

So before it could react, Asthon lunged forward targeting the weak point, crossing the distance in a heartbeat.

And then he unleashed a punch with devastating force at the alien's weak point, sending it flying.

As the alien crashed back, shards of metal scattered all around. Smoke rose with the sharp stench of burnt alloy its armor scorched where lightning had seeped through the inner components

The alien slammed into a building far away, giving him time to examine his condition and the surroundings.

"I have lost considerable power…"

It leaked almost immediately when he brought out the power in his fist. If he didn't react quickly, none might remain for him to strike.

This wasn't all, a little bit of power was constantly leaking out from his body proving one thing making him realize…

"This mysterious power won't last for long... I must end this quickly.." Asthon mumbled looking at Krylian.

Krylian looked exhausted, almost like he was on the verge of collapse but he was conscious. Krylian stared at Ashton in shock.

"Young master….. how did you…. get so powerful?"

Asthon didn't respond, he merely broke the chains restraining him. "Don't overthink, just ree..." Before he could finish, an eerie voice echoed around them, grabbing his attention.

"You humans can control mana, hmm unexpected"

Asthon looked at the source of the voice, and he found the alien calmly emerging from the rubble of the building despite his armor having a dent.

At first, Asthon was shocked by the alien's ability to speak in human language, but then he realized it wasn't too shocking.

Afteralll…..

"They are too technologically advanced"

What shocked him more was his resilience, even after being punched with devastating force, the alien stood up like nothing ever happened.

"Just… Just how… strong are… you!"

The alien didn't respond; that is when the notification began to flash in his retina, which shocked him.

Various technical information about the combat suit of the alien flashed in his retina.

He could view detailed descriptions of every component, their functions, structure, and material composition.

That wasn't all, he could also see internal components hidden under the armor, but with much less clarity, and temperature at various points in the armor, checking if a certain spot was overheating.

"This power in my eyes..... It's extremely overpowered…."

To normal people, it might not be that overpowered, but to him, who had studied material science and mechanical engineering all his life, it was different.

He could understand the technical information so he could put it to good use.

However, the description was full of blanks, causing critical information to be missing. It was especially true for the internal components.

"Maybe it's because I am lacking the relevant knowledge?"

His eyes only revealed information about things he already had fundamental knowledge of that were available. So it must be due to the lack of relevant knowledge.

As he was thinking about it all, the piece of metal on the alien's shoulder moved revealing dozens of holes. From those holes, energy-based attacks hurled towards them at an incredible speed.

Seeing this, he carried Krylian on his back and then dashed to the left in the blink of an eye dodging the attack.

The energy attack hit where they were standing earlier, producing a powerful explosion and pulverizing anything within a certain radius.

Seeing this, Asthon created a great distance between the alien and them, then he got Krylian off his back, and he said. "Stay here," Asthon remarked as he prepared to charge.

"But...." Before Krylian could even start Asthon was gone.

Asthon lunged forward, and the alien launched dozens of energy-based attacks at him.

He wasn't wearing any sort of protection, so if he got directly hit by any of the aliens' powerful attacks, he would be killed..

"Can't get hit by them" Asthon mumbled as he dodged with his superior speed.

As he dodged one thing after another, sweat began to drop. It was clear that he was under a lot of pressure.

"If only I could end this in one blow...."

Asthon scanned the alien's armor for weak points. His eyes revealed that while the armor was thin, its material was incredibly strong and nearly impossible to damage.

But it was possible to seriously damage it with enough force proven with his early strike.

But of course, striking randomly won't allow him to finish him in a few strikes. So he started to scan the internal components underneath.

There were a lot of mechanisms that his eyes didn't provide any information about completely leaving him in the dark.

Except one and that's the weapon systems on the alien's shoulder. But he didn't understand how it worked.

He only noticed a small wire-like structure providing energy to it. He traced back the structure to its source.

There, he found a small circular structure shining brightly, connected with countless such wire structures and having the greatest energy output.

"This is the energy source poweri….."

The alien unleashed a barrage of energy blasts, stronger than before. He dodged with precision, eyes fixed on its chest beneath the armor lay the energy core, his true target.

If he destroyed it, the alien would be powerless, maybe even consumed in a deadly explosion.

As he slipped past another strike, the alien's right arm morphed into a sword and lunged at his face.

As the alien lunged towards his face, he evaded the attack by moving his face to the right, barely dodging the alien's attack.

He channeled energy into his fist and struck the armor above the core, but only managed to leave a dent.

Realization struck him "I need a weapon." The energy coursing through his body and fist alone wasn't enough, so he began searching for one.

As he looked for weapons, he saw a rod with a sharp pointy end lying on the ground. He could maybe use it to destroy the energy source.

He punched the alien with much less power, hoping to push him away, which he succeeded in. Then he dashed towards the rod, but the alien followed him.

When he was within reach, he picked the rod up from the rubble. "Let's just hope it can handle the power" Asthon mumbled as he turned around.

He saw the alien was just a few meters away from him, so he took a defensive stance, as an opening to strike the energy source was yet to be created.

When the alien got close, Asthon blocked dozens of attacks with relentless force within seconds.

***********

As he fought to protect, Krylian watched everything from a distance seeing Asthon's power shocked him.

But seeing Asthon fight alone also made him feel useless, especially when an alien's morphed hand lunged towards Asthon.

He was supposed to protect Asthon with his life, but here he was lying helpless while Asthon fought on the frontline for their survival.

If something happened to Asthon in front of his eyes, he would never be able to forgive himself.

So Krylian tried to stand up, but his body failed him as even trying to stand up caused him to collapse on the ground.

"I can't sit still... I need to find…. a way to help him…"

"I have pledged to protect him….. if I can't even help him in such a situation... What's the use of my living?

No, he couldn't just sit still while Asthon fought for their survival; if he didn't do anything to help, he would lose the reason to live!

Krylian tried to stand up. As he tried to stand, he roared, "I… I must… stand… I can't… give up!!" That's when a miracle occurred.

Something shattered within him, an aura engulfing him. Within seconds, the aura extended beyond where the alien and Asthon were.

He felt overwhelming power overflowing in his body allowing him to stand up effortlessly.

That's not what surprised him the most; what surprised him the most was his ability to read people's minds.

He could read what Asthon was thinking, even the alien, despite the language barrier. Reading the alien's mind allowed him to know a terrifying plot.

The alien planned to allow him to destroy the morphed weapon so that he could kill Ashton by luring him to a trap!

Before he could warn Asthon, the alien executed the first part of his plan by giving Asthon an opening to destroy his morphed arm.

Asthon, being quick to react, did exactly what the alien wanted, launching an attack at the morphed arm, falling into its trap.

Praying that it wasn't too late, Krylian shouted, warning him, "Young master, don't snap his morphed hand, otherwise you will get killed!!"
