The blazing sun hung high, radiating endless light and heat. Golden waves of desert wind rolled and churned, distorting even the space itself.
Within a ring of mountains in the desert, a clear river roared through.Clusters of low houses made of stone and mud sat quietly between the mountains and the river, forming a town steeped in history and foreign charm.
The residents wore ancient Egyptian clothing—some selling jars and bottles at roadside stalls, some toiling diligently in the fields, and some clad in pale-gold armor with spear in hand, standing guard around the golden palace at the town's center.
In the azure sky above, the shimmering silhouette of a golden palace hung upside down—clearly visible even from afar, like a guiding landmark.
Somewhere in the desert, the air rippled like the surface of water. A phantom-like bird slipped out from the spatial waves, like a fish leaping through the water's skin.
The messenger bird flapped its wings, floating in midair. Its small eyes scanned the surroundings, searching for something. Following the guidance of a familiar aura, it located its target.
A crisp birdcall echoed as the messenger bird took flight into the distance.
The rules of the messenger bird delivery system were simple.First, the item must weigh under 1 kg.Second, a precise delivery address was required. If no address was provided, an item imbued with the recipient's aura must be supplied.
If neither an address nor an aura-marked object was available, delivery was impossible.
Fortunately, Yugi Mutou and Atem had lived together for a long time—and often alternated in sharing the same body—so their auras were deeply intertwined. The messenger bird could easily use that to locate Atem.
Inside the golden palace, in the Hall of the Throne—
Straight pillars stood tall, supporting the heavy ceiling. Egyptian warriors clad in white robes and golden armor held their spears, standing silently along both sides of the hall and before the throne.
Atem—whose appearance and hair color resembled Yugi Mutou's but with three lightning-shaped bangs at his forehead—sat upright on the throne. His sharp gaze rested upon a spot on the ceiling.
As soon as the Pharaoh's eyes landed on that point, the incorporeal messenger bird pierced through layers of barriers and flew into the hall.
"An elf spirit?"
Mahad stared at the spirit flying toward the throne, puzzled. His senses told him that this spirit was unusual and carried no malice.
Even so, he planned to expel it immediately. Perception was not always reliable—some spirits could disguise their aura. For the sake of the King's safety, all dangers had to be eliminated.
Mahad tightened his grip on his staff and prepared to raise it—when he suddenly saw his King, Atem, lift his right hand slightly, as if holding something invisible.
The messenger bird gently landed on Atem's palm and chirped once, then dissolved into a shower of golden sand-like particles. The terminal and the letter fell precisely into Atem's hand.
Placing the terminal on his right leg, Atem picked up the letter, intending to see who it was from and what it contained.
The moment he saw the sender—Yugi Mutou—Atem froze in surprise and confusion. After reading the contents, that surprise and confusion only deepened, mixed now with concern.
AIBO wouldn't have been tricked by some evil gods, would he!?
Worried about AIBO, Atem immediately put on the terminal, fully prepared to break into the den of whatever evil god had deceived him and rescue AIBO.
"Mahad, I must leave for a while. Guard the kingdom in my stead."
Atem spoke while swiftly operating the terminal.
"My King, I will accompany you."
How could Mahad possibly allow Atem to venture into danger alone? The Underworld had its disturbances, but it wasn't too dangerous. The warriors and priests remaining in the kingdom were more than enough to ensure the people's safety.
Atem recalled the information he had received. Evil gods who preached their slogans so loudly were very likely extremely powerful. The more allies he could bring, the better.
"Very well—let's go together."
Atem opened his palm. A stack of cards materialized—among them the three Egyptian God Cards and several other rare cards.
Seeing this, Mahad transformed into a card as well and settled neatly on the top of the deck.
"Teleport!"
A countdown began. Blue light enveloped Atem, then shot into the sky like a glowing arrow.
"May the King be victorious!"
The priests and warriors in the hall knelt on one knee, offering their heartfelt blessings.
...
One Piece World.
Dressrosa.
A beam of light descended from the sky and landed atop the mushroom-shaped rocky mesa.
As the light faded, Atem stepped to the edge of the formation and gazed toward the distant city.
With Doflamingo defeated and the Donquixote Family uprooted, the toys throughout the country had returned to human form, plunging the kingdom into temporary chaos.
Yet the Riku family had regained the throne. King Riku Dold III had resumed rule and mobilized citizens to repair damaged streets and homes. Order was gradually being restored.
But this was merely surface-level order.Deeper emotional wounds—those involving family and love—were not so easily fixed. Outsiders could not intervene; only those involved could resolve them.
And many such problems were not solvable even by those involved. Thus, brawls still broke out frequently across the country.
Retracting his gaze, Atem lowered his head to look at the terminal on his wrist. He opened the group chat, found Yugi Mutou, sent a friend request, and then messaged him privately.
The request was instantly accepted.
Yugi Mutou:Atem!
Though it was only three simple characters, Atem felt a deep nostalgia and longing in them.
Atem softened into a gentle smile and asked,"AIBO, where are you?"
Catching up could wait. Ensuring AIBO's safety came first.
Yugi Mutou:Where? …Honestly, I'm not sure either. I don't know where the boat drifted to.
Boat? Drifted?
AIBO encountered a shipwreck?
Atem frowned thoughtfully, concern rising.
"AIBO, stay safe. I will find you very soon."
Ending the conversation, Atem called out:
"Mahad—locating magic."
As he spoke, the deck in his hand glowed with golden light. Mahad's figure materialized at Atem's side. With a sweep of his staff, magic surged, and a dazzling magic circle appeared. From its center, a phantom light-bird emerged and flapped skyward.
Crack… crack…
The sacred alchemical Duel Disk unfolded, and Atem inserted the deck.
"Cursed Dragon—Summon."
He placed a monster card on the Duel Disk. A monstrous creature emerged accordingly.
"Grrr…"
The horrifying Cursed Dragon let out a low growl, lowering its massive body and crouching obediently.
Atem and Mahad leapt onto its back. The Cursed Dragon rumbled softly again, then spread its wings and took flight, following the trail left by the phantom light-bird.
The light-bird flew only at the speed of an ordinary bird, while the Cursed Dragon was far faster. Within moments, they caught up to the bird and flew alongside it.
