Lin Chen nearly threw up. The woman in front of him wasn't ugly, but the deliberately sickly, fragile act felt completely out of place.
She was another of Tree Demon Granny's subordinates — Xiaoqing.
"Big sister, go look in a mirror before trying to flirt at night. You're scary," Lin Chen complained.
"Bastard! I'll tear you apart!" Xiaoqing's face twisted. Her fingers turned into claws, nails growing longer than her fingers as she lunged.
Catwoman woke at that moment. One look at Xiaoqing and she screamed — then fainted again.
Lin Chen sighed. "You steal every night, but you're afraid of ghosts? How do you survive?"
Xiaoqing's claws were about to reach him.
Lin Chen stepped back lightly, instantly retreating ten meters.
Xiaoqing sneered. "Refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit!"
"Sorry, I don't want blood splashing on my clothes." Lin Chen raised his hand.
Palm Thunder!
A streak of purple lightning exploded from his palm, striking Xiaoqing dead center.
"Ah—!" She screamed as her body was blown apart.
Lin Chen clapped his hands, ready to leave.
Nie Xiaoqian rushed over, staring at Xiaoqing's remains in shock. "You killed her?!"
"She couldn't beat me. Got so mad she blew herself up," Lin Chen shrugged.
Nie Xiaoqian rolled her eyes. "You think I'm stupid? Are you going to kill me too?"
"Why would I kill you? You're so pretty. Wouldn't it be better if you became my maid?" He winked.
She blushed. "But… you already have a wife."
"I don't mind."
"Scoundrel! Molesting me!" She rushed at him.
Suddenly, the sound of sand and stones flying filled the air.
"Grandma's here — go!" Nie Xiaoqian's expression changed.
"Your grandma? I'd like to meet her. Maybe she'll gift you to me."
She grew anxious. "You don't seem like a bad person. Leave now! Grandma is a powerful demon!"
A voice echoed from the forest — neither male nor female.
"Xiaoqing, did you bring him?"
Tree Demon Granny appeared.
She eyed Lin Chen, drooling. "What a fine young man. Full of spiritual energy. A great tonic!"
"Xiaoqing, catch him!"
Nie Xiaoqian was conflicted. She didn't want to hurt Lin Chen, but Granny controlled her.
Lin Chen held Catwoman with one arm, stepped forward, grabbed Nie Xiaoqian's hand affectionately. "Xiaoqian, love at first sight. You even helped me kill Xiaoqing. I'm touched."
She froze. "I killed Xiaoqing?!"
He nodded solemnly. "She tried to kill me. Your feelings for me are too deep — you killed her to protect me."
"You even told me to run quickly. How could I leave you?"
Turning to Granny, he said, "If you want to kill me, do it. Xiaoqian was only bewitched by me."
Granny nearly exploded with rage. "You little slut! I thought I misheard — you really told him to leave!"
"Men are big pig hooves! So stupid for a man! Look at him — hugging another woman!"
Nie Xiaoqian's face shifted from red to white to green. Men really can't be trusted…
She snapped, "You liar! You killed Xiaoqing!"
Lin Chen shrugged. "Why would I kill someone? You said Granny forced you to marry the Black Mountain Demon."
Nie Xiaoqian blinked. "Did I say that?"
His nonsense left her confused.
"You also told me to burn Lanruo Temple — maybe Granny would die in the fire."
"I said that?!"
Granny was now completely convinced. "Good! Colluding with outsiders to harm me! I'll kill you first!"
She attacked.
"Grandma, listen—!" Nie Xiaoqian cried.
Lin Chen stepped forward, blocking the blow. He handed Catwoman to Xiaoqian. "Take care of her. I'll kill this neither-man-nor-woman thing."
"Be careful," Xiaoqian said instinctively — then covered her mouth.
Granny fumed. "Adulterous pair! I'll kill you!"
Vines shot toward Lin Chen.
He drew the Heavenly Master Sword, using Guigu sword techniques, slicing roots at high speed.
"Let's see how many roots you've got!"
"Look ahead!" Xiaoqian warned.
Hundreds of vines surged.
"I'll turn you into fertilizer!"
Lin Chen pointed. A massive water dragon burst forth, blocking them.
Granny laughed. "Water nourishes wood!"
"I know. But this is corrosive water."
Smoke rose as roots rotted.
Granny screamed, severing her own vines to stop the spread.
"Stinky Taoist! You have some skill — but you've offended me!"
"Just 'some'?" Lin Chen raised his sword.
Five Thunders!
Lightning struck her.
She rolled, trying to burrow underground.
Lin Chen sealed the ground with earth-control techniques.
Her true form emerged — a giant tree body, only the head humanoid.
"Monster!" Catwoman shrieked.
Half-dead, Granny glared at Xiaoqian.
"Xiaoqian! Stop his woman and save me, or I'll scatter your ashes and erase your soul!"
