Jill fired her gun at the two attackers, who were both shirtless, without causing any real harm.
The locomotive, frustrated, shouted, "Hurry up and kill them! I want my share of the 1 million USD!"
Lin Chen leaned casually around Jill's waist. "Invisible man, didn't the black mask give you 4 million? And you only gave 1 million to the locomotive? Too stingy, don't you think?"
"Lin, are you okay?" Jill checked him anxiously, noting there was no blood.
Lin Chen wiped his hands across his face, smearing his makeup in the process. "My eyes are all red… makeup ruined."
Jill pouted. "I was scared! And now my makeup's ruined too!" She clutched his hand tightly, afraid of losing him—it had been a close call.
Meanwhile, the locomotive quarreled with the Invisible Man. "You promised half-and-half, and you cheated me out of a million!"
"Nonsense!" the Invisible Man shouted. "The target isn't dead yet! We don't get paid until it's done!"
Lin Chen smiled, taking out a Fire Dragon Talisman. "The Flame Dragon, now!"
With a thunderous roar, a flaming dragon appeared out of thin air, charging toward the two villains.
The locomotive moved with incredible speed, but the Invisible Man lagged slightly—and was immediately bitten by the Fire Dragon!
"Ahhh!" the Invisible Man screamed. The flames enveloped his mouth, nose, and ears, turning him into a sizzling mess.
Lin Chen grinned. "So, you're the only one who took the 4 million. Happy now?"
"Hmph! Pretending to be a ghost!" the locomotive snapped, aiming his gun at Lin Chen.
Lin Chen activated a Spiritual Shield Talisman, pulling Jill behind him. Bullets hit the shield and fell harmlessly to the ground.
Frustrated, the locomotive threw down his pistol and charged. His speed rivaled Quicksilver, though his strength was inferior.
"Lin, he's too fast!" Jill exclaimed.
Lin Chen shook his head. "Doesn't matter. At the critical moment, he'll trip. Trust me."
Jill was incredulous. "We can't rely on luck!"
Lin Chen laughed. "Sometimes, you have to."
Fuming, the locomotive surged forward. "I'll turn you into meat!"
But fate—or Lin Chen's prediction—intervened. The locomotive tripped over a stone. He rolled and tumbled across the ground like a human gourd, head repeatedly hitting rocks.
"Lin…" Jill whispered, horrified.
Lin Chen approached the sprawled man. "Looks like you didn't read the Yunmen Almanac today. Nine out of ten traffic accidents happen because of carelessness. Be more careful next time."
Jill muttered, "I guess he'll only learn that lesson in his next life."
The locomotive, dazed and breathless, tried to raise a hand but failed. Jill glanced at Lin Chen, whispering, "You really scared me there."
Lin Chen held her close. "I know. That's why I'm here. You're safe now."
Jill listened to his heartbeat, still trembling. "I thought I was going to die… but now I feel alive again."
Lin Chen smiled down at her. "Really?"
"Really," she murmured.
Finally, they turned their attention back to the aftermath. Lin Chen explained to Jill, "The locomotive killed himself by tripping. I can't even take credit. I just… cleaned up the emblem symbol."
Jill frowned. "And the Invisible Man?"
Lin Chen looked around, shrugging. "Where? I don't see anyone."
Jill realized it too. "Kane disappeared as mysteriously as ever…"
Lin Chen didn't comment. Instead, Jill called the police to report the incident. Lin Chen contacted Harley Quinn.
"Harley, it's fine. The bad guys… handled themselves. I'll go to the station with Jill later, you should rest."
Jill teased him. "Reporting your safety again? What a good man."
Lin Chen laughed. "I'm just preventing the police from poking too closely."
At the station, they explained to Gordon that the locomotive tripped and died. The forensic report confirmed it: he had been fatally struck by the inverted emblem.
"Lin Daochang, be careful. These people belong to a killer organization. Some have supernatural abilities."
"Thank you, Director Gordon. I'll pay attention," Lin Chen said with a smile, thinking about the bizarre possibility: Could this group be imitators of the Black-Robed Pickets? Copycat Aquaman? Copycat Superman?
After filing the report, Lin Chen escorted Jill.
"Miss, shall I take you home?"
"I just want to go home, no matter where you go," Jill replied, smiling.
Lin Chen revved the motorcycle. "Hold on tight!"
The engine roared as they sped off. They arrived at Jill's modest, cozy apartment, where Lin Chen teased her, "I didn't expect a girl so fierce to love cleanliness."
Jill, a bit embarrassed, said, "I'm sweaty… you go wash first."
They chatted late into the night, playing games and teasing each other, until exhaustion finally took over.
The next morning, Jill prepared for work. Lin Chen, still tired, sighed.
"I'll just catch up on sleep," he said.
Jill's eyes sparkled mischievously. "Alright, then. I'll take you back." She grinned, "Hold me tight—I want to drive!"
Lin Chen laughed, wrapping his arms around her as the day began.
