Ethan's POV
When I pushed the door open, the first thing I saw was her—
Soraya.
Her eyes were red, her lashes damp. Asha sat beside her on the edge of the bed, holding her trembling hands like a sister would. The scent of sorrow still clung to the air, sharp and heavy, pressing down on everything.
Asha looked up the moment I entered, her spine straightening, fear flashing in her gaze. She stood abruptly, bowing her head.
"My Prince," she murmured, voice almost trembling.
Soraya's eyes lifted next—and the fury in them was enough to stop my breath.
"What are you doing here?" she demanded, her voice hoarse from crying.
I said nothing. I didn't know what I could say that would make any of it right.
Her anger darkened. She rose from the bed, shoulders squared though her body still shook. "I asked you a question, Ethan. What are you doing here?"
Asha hesitated, then bowed quickly and slipped from the room, leaving the door to close behind her with a soft click.
