Kael's POV
I stood outside the veranda of the safe house, the cool afternoon breeze brushing against my face. Maya was beside me, lazily licking a lollipop, her eyes scanning the compound with that infuriating mix of mischief and knowingness.
I couldn't take my eyes off the place. The safe house was… unreal. Three luxury cars gleamed under the sunlight, perfectly parked at the front, their polished surfaces reflecting the grand facade of the house. Guards patrolled the grounds in measured steps, their presence a silent promise of security.
"Lucas owns this?" I asked, disbelief coloring my tone.
Maya tilted her head, eyes narrowing as she regarded me. "Yes, he does. You know… when I saw you come down from that Rolls Royce back at the supermarket, I knew there was something about you."
I chuckled. "For real?"
Her grin widened, sharp and teasing. "That car couldn't belong to a neighbor, could it? Nobody can be a neighbor to a mere sales rep."
