Kael's POV
The first thing that returned was pain.
A deep, throbbing ache pulsed through every nerve in my body. I groaned, opening my eyes slowly. The ceiling above me was smooth, cream-colored, sunlight spilling through a tall window. The room smelled faintly of polished wood and leather, the furniture understated yet elegant. I blinked a few times, trying to focus, taking in the quiet luxury of my unfamiliar surroundings.
Where… am I?
My hearing sharpened before my vision did. I could make out the distant hum of traffic—cars, engines, city life.
I pushed myself upright, but pain shot through my shoulder, white-hot and cruel. I looked down. Bandages—clean, neatly wrapped, soaked faintly through with dried blood.
Someone patched me up.
