The appearance of an S-class hero and an A-class hero eased the crowd's tension considerably. Some curious onlookers even stopped in their tracks, eager to see how their heroes would deal with the Bat King.
"Just two heroes, one A-class, one S-class… I'm really being underestimated," the Bat King said as the bats around him dispersed. When he descended to three or four meters high, his true form was revealed.
He was a short man, barely over 1.3 meters tall, yet seemingly quite heavy. The fact that several bats could lift him into the air indicated that these were no ordinary bats.
The swarm of bats circling him created an overwhelming visual impact, as if a demon lord had descended, blotting out the sky.
Half the sky seemed filled with his bats—a testament to his terrifying power.
"How many heroes do you need to take down? We're enough!" Smiling Superman said without hesitation, wielding a massive hammerblade and charging at the Bat King. "Take this!"
He swung the hammerblade downward, aiming for the Bat King's face. But suddenly, a swarm of bats surged up and swallowed the weapon whole.
Superman struggled to pull it free. The bats clutched it tightly. Though they were living creatures, it felt as if his hammerblade was fused with the bats—he couldn't move it no matter how hard he tried.
His struggle only drew more bats toward him.
Gritting his teeth, he had no choice but to release it and jump back.
The battle had just begun, and already the heroes were taking the brunt of it. The Bat King laughed heartily: "This is the weapon you rely on? Looks like you'll need to buy a new one!"
As he spoke, more bats swarmed the hammerblade. Within moments, the bats dispersed—the weapon completely gone, devoured by the swarm.
"These creatures' teeth… not something to underestimate. They can even devour this?"
Superman gritted his teeth. He hadn't expected the bats to manage that. If he wanted to fight up close, he would need incredible speed to avoid being entangled.
Flash Fleece's feet glowed brilliantly, and in a blink, he was already beside the Bat King.
"Flash Kick!"
A blur of fast, chaotic kicks slammed toward the Bat King.
But the Bat King was unafraid. Facing the oncoming Flash Fleece, he waved casually, and several bats flew out, stacking their wings into a black circular shield.
Flash Fleece's attacks struck the bat shield like stones hitting the ocean—completely ineffective.
"Go!"
The Bat King barked, sending dozens of bats toward Flash Fleece. He raised his guard to block, but the bats accelerated, bypassing him entirely.
Some bats intertwined, forming a bowl-shaped black dome, trapping Flash Fleece inside.
"Damn it! They've sealed off my escape route!"
Flash Fleece's expression darkened. The enemy didn't attack directly but used bats to block his retreat, leaving him with no way out.
The black "bat bowl" blocked all daylight, with only countless small red dots visible—the bats' eyes.
"Flash Punch!"
He focused his energy into his fist and struck. The dense bat swarm was split open, letting in a shaft of light. The struck bats let out pitiful squeaks before dying.
But within seconds, other bats filled the gap, and the light vanished under darkness again.
Stimulated by the attack, the bats moved closer toward Flash Fleece.
"Damn beasts! Don't think I'll fear you!"
Energy gathered in his fists again. Flash Fleece planned to break through the bat encirclement and escape.
Suddenly, the bat swarm wriggled. Human screams reached Flash Fleece's ears—four humans, male and female, old and young, replaced part of the bats in the "black bowl."
"Mr. Fleece, save me! Save me!" a middle school girl in uniform cried, tears streaking her face.
The other three shouted similarly. The energy in Flash Fleece's fist dissipated. "This bastard… he's using civilians to threaten me!"
He gritted his teeth. The enemy's move was meant to restrict him.
Could he break through? Yes. As an S-class hero, there was no doubt about that.
The Bat King knew this. He didn't foolishly send more swarms to devour him. Instead, he surrounded Flash Fleece and even used humans as part of the "bat formation," preventing Flash Fleece from using wide-area destructive techniques.
He didn't know how many people were outside. Any reckless move could result in horrific casualties.
Outside, the bat "black bowl" continued to thicken. The Bat King laughed: "I know you heroes have great attack power, but I won't attack directly. I'll use these humans' lives to threaten you. Haha! You're a hero, right? Let's see if you sacrifice yourself for the people or sacrifice them for yourself!"
The crowd felt a chill. The one-person-wide bat bowl had grown thicker, with glimpses of colorful clothing visible—humans forming part of the wall!
Flash Fleece was correct. Outside the black bowl, many civilians were forming a "wall." Any strike through it would kill at least five people.
"Damn it! Where are the other S-class heroes? Wait… is that… King and Genos?"
Smiling Superman's eyes fixed on four figures approaching. Unlike the hidden crowd, they walked casually, chatting. The two men on the sides were familiar.
S-class heroes on the hero ranking—King and Genos!
"It's King, with the Emperor Engine! We're saved!"
"And Genos too! Perfect, that bat freak won't escape now!"
"Come on, take down the bat freak!"
The crowd's attention shifted to King and Genos, ignoring the previous two strongest heroes.
