...
"What?"
Anton was stunned.
This situation was indeed beyond his expectations.
A green monster?
The military?
How did the remnants of the Foot Clan manage to get tangled up with those two forces?!
Although Phil didn't mention anyone's identities directly, the moment he mentioned Brazil and the timing, Anton naturally connected the dots.
The Hulk—and the military unit hunting him, led by General Ross.
"Boss, we didn't expect it either!"
Phil's face was full of helplessness as he recounted everything to Anton.
They had spent an entire day combing through the rainforest. After finally pinpointing the location and digging up the final piece of the Mind Transmission Device, a deafening boom suddenly erupted in the distance.
A helicopter had been crushed flat—literally flattened—and hurled over like a toy. Its rotor blades were twisted, and from who-knows-how-far away, it crashed straight into the ground beside them.
Trees in the rainforest snapped clean in half, some even uprooted entirely. Mud splattered across their faces. Everyone was completely stunned.
Boom!
A second later, the helicopter exploded.
As the shockwave swept by, a hulking, muscle-packed green figure sprang into the air like a flea—then came crashing down before them.
It was a giant—bare-chested, wearing only shorts, a towering green monster.
When he landed, the ground trembled violently, like a small earthquake.
Seeing Phil and the others holding weapons, the green monster didn't hesitate—he smashed one Foot Clan survivor to death with a single punch.
Coincidentally, that was when the military arrived.
The remaining helicopters were fully armed, their cannons aimed at both the green monster in the rainforest and at Phil's group.
In the blink of an eye, the green monster accidentally stepped on the spot where the device fragment was buried—triggering it.
Swish!
The green monster—and the fragment—vanished!
Everyone froze yet again.
Phil and his people stared at each other blankly before being surrounded by the military. They escaped only after exhausting every ounce of effort, suffering heavy losses.
This trip was supposed to be smooth, yet trouble found them at the very end.
Nearly ten people had gone with them—now only three returned, counting Phil himself.
Aside from him, the survivors were, naturally, Dr. Stockman and the female ninja Karai.
Of course, the military had taken heavy losses too.
Under the Foot Clan remnants' desperate counterattack, over thirty soldiers were killed.
Never mind that the two sides had no hatred to begin with! After this, even without hatred, hatred had been created!
To be honest, the most miserable one wasn't the military or the Foot Clan—it was Phil.
He had only come to Brazil for a quick trip, yet he ended up provoking the U.S. military. Didn't this confirm his status as a supervillain?
What if he went home only to be arrested on the spot and thrown into prison?
Phil had seen it clearly—the soldiers attacking the green monster weren't Brazilian. Their uniforms carried American flags. They were the same cross-border operatives the group had bumped into at the airport when they first landed.
After explaining the whole ordeal, Phil felt complicated—and so did Anton, after hearing it.
"But we should still be able to locate the remaining fragments and that monster using the tracking device."
Phil recalled something, then added, "However, during our escape, the locator was damaged. We can't track anything for now."
"In that case, come back first."
Anton thought for a moment—but before he could finish speaking, a loud bang suddenly came from the other end of the phone.
Phil instinctively turned around—and froze.
The hotel room door had been kicked open, and several assault rifles were pointed straight at him. He was shocked.
"Don't move! Hands up!"
The military had surrounded his hotel. A squad of soldiers burst inside, weapons raised, their dark muzzles aimed directly at him.
Phil didn't even have time to put on his Green Goblin suit. He obediently raised his hands, released his phone, and let it fall onto the carpet.
As he was escorted outside, he saw that Stockman had also been handcuffed.
Even Karai—the strongest fighter among them when unarmed—was no exception. She too had become a prisoner of the military.
"Well, I guess I don't need to worry about getting arrested after returning home!"
Phil forced a bitter smile.
"At this rate, going home itself is the real problem!"
...
"Phil?"
Anton's expression darkened as he heard the chaos over the phone.
His mind moved—he summoned his Cyborg Avatar. In only a few seconds, he used the phone to pinpoint Phil's location in a Brazilian hotel.
Then he wiped all data from Phil's phone.
Using the hotel's surveillance feeds, he watched through the eyes of the Cyborg Avatar as Phil and the others were escorted out by the military.
Boom!
Without hesitation…
He transferred his consciousness into the cyborg body, crashed through the window, and shot into the sky—destination: Brazil.
As he flew out of the villa district, every surveillance camera he passed froze on the previous frame. Only after the cyborg shot into the distance did they resume normal operation.
...
Brazil, near Rio de Janeiro.
A military airbase.
This was a temporary facility Ross had borrowed through his connections.
They would rest for the night and return to the U.S. first thing in the morning.
During this time, Ross had swiftly uncovered Stockman's identity.
As for Phil and Karai? Their identities remained unclear.
Stockman was a well-known scientist. The other two were practically nobodies in comparison—unknown, obscure, insignificant.
Inside the base, a sealed room resembling an interrogation chamber—
A single spotlight shone on Stockman's face.
General Ross sat opposite him, expression unreadable, eyes deep with thought. After a long silence, he suddenly chuckled, sending chills down Stockman's spine.
"Baxter Stockman, scientist researching mind-transfer technology for many years…"
Ross spoke slowly. "So you're telling me the man I was chasing vanished because of your Mind Transmission Device?"
"No—not exactly."
Stockman swallowed hard. "The technology is still incomplete. I can send someone away, but I can't bring them back. Do you understand? If you're trying to find that person, I can't help you!"
"You can't even guarantee he's still on Earth?"
Ross raised a brow.
"I…"
Stockman faltered—then reluctantly nodded.
"I found something interesting among your equipment. My tech expert tells me it's a tracking device."
Ross tapped the table lightly, then gave a thin smile. "Dr. Stockman, care to tell me what it's used for?"
Stockman's heart lurched. Looking at the old fox before him, he was certain Ross had already caught onto something.
Moments later—
Stockman was carried out, groaning.
He wasn't dead—but he had been tortured thoroughly.
For a ruthless, goal-driven, iron-willed general like Ross, resorting to such methods was only natural.
"Mind Transmission Device… tracking equipment… Banner, your little escape really brought me quite a surprise…"
Inside the interrogation room—
Ross did not leave immediately.
He pondered for a while, then revealed a cold smile.
Without a doubt—since Banner escaped using a fragment of the device, the fragment's location and Banner's location were now overlapping.
Once the tracking device was repaired, locating Banner was only a matter of time.
And through Banner, he could reassemble the complete Mind Transmission Device.
Two birds with one stone.
But Ross had no idea that at that very moment, a man was tearing through the clouds at unimaginable speed—headed straight for Brazil.
