Chapter 9 - Chapter 10: Headless Horseman

Damine then ordered the skeleton and headless horseman to protect them while they reached their destination.

Damien then ordered the skeleton and the headless horseman to protect them while they moved toward their goal.

Their destination was the cafeteria near the teachers' building. It had a strong gate and high walls, making it the perfect place to turn into a small fortress.

Alice and Jennifer ran beside Damien, while the headless horseman circled around them, slashing down any zombies that tried to attack. The sound of hooves and the flash of the flaming sword kept the zombies at bay.

After clearing the nearby threats, they finally reached the teachers' building. The gate was open, so they quickly rushed inside. Damien left the skeleton to hold the gate in place, using its hands as a lock to keep it shut.

Several zombies were still wandering around the building, but thankfully, there were not many mutant ones among them.

The headless horseman charged forward with his flaming horse, cutting down the zombies with ease. After the last of them fell, Damien walked over to the pile of corpses and began summoning new skeletons from the dead bodies, strengthening his army once again.

The teachers' building was not only three stories tall but also filled with many facilities. That was the main reason Damien had chosen this place as their base.

After raising skeletons to his max limit, he ordered them to clear the zombies inside the building. Meanwhile, Damien, Alice, and Jennifer walked around the area to check if there were any breaks or weak points in the walls surrounding the building.

The headless horseman also stepped down from his horse and joined the skeletons to help clear the building.

Unlike normal undead, the headless horseman had very high intelligence. In Damien's current situation, having such a strong and smart undead as support was a huge advantage.

The headless horseman left his horse outside with Damien while he went inside the building. Once inside, he began ordering the skeletons and slaughtering the zombies one after another.

Bodies of zombies piled up all over the place, their corpses scattered across the floor. None of them could stand against the army of undead and the headless horseman's power.

After some time, the headless horseman returned, his armor and sword dripping with blood. Damien was sitting near the entrance of the teachers' building with Alice and Jennifer, who had just finished checking the walls for any breaks.

Seeing the headless horseman covered in blood, Alice and Jennifer grew scared and quickly hid behind Damien.

Damien looked at the horseman and said, "Looks like everything is set. First, go and clean yourself up."

The headless horseman bowed slightly and replied, "Master, we undead do not need to clean. The blood will slowly be absorbed by us, and through it, we will grow stronger."

Hearing the headless horseman's reply, Damien nodded and started walking inside the building.

When he stepped in, he was surprised by what he saw. The skeletons were actually cleaning the floors with mops. Their movements looked stiff and robotic, but they were trying to wipe away the blood on the ground.

Some skeletons were carrying the dead bodies and stacking them inside a room. Others were picking up blood-soaked clothes and throwing them aside to clear the place.

It was a strange and eerie sight—undead monsters doing the simple work of cleaning like ordinary workers.

The headless horseman looked at Damien and said, "Master, I was the one who ordered the skeletons to do this."

Hearing his words, Damien simply nodded without saying anything more.

Then, together with Alice and Jennifer, he walked further into the teachers' building.

Inside, they were stunned by what they saw. This place was not an ordinary building—it was filled with expensive and luxurious items everywhere. From the furniture to the decorations, everything looked high-class, as if it belonged to a palace instead of a school.

Damien soon realized why. This building was mostly used by the principal. The previous principal's office had been demolished because the new principal didn't like it. Since the new principal was the wife of a major investor in the university, the school had spent a huge amount of money rebuilding the office into something extravagant.

Although the building was named the "teachers' building," in reality, it was more like the personal mansion of the principal.

The teachers used another building just a few meters away, which had decent facilities for their work.

After making sure there were no zombies left, the group decided to look for food inside. Meanwhile, Damien chose to head up to the rooftop of the teachers' building.

The stairs were covered in clean, beautifully designed marble tiles. They looked very expensive, like something out of a mansion.

Rich people really do live in a different world, Damien thought to himself as he climbed up. Following behind him was the headless horseman, his body now holding less blood than before—it seemed he had absorbed most of it into his form.

When Damien finally reached the rooftop, he could see almost the entire area that wasn't blocked by other buildings. The view was both wide and grim.

Zombies were scattered everywhere below. Not a single human could be seen.

"Looks like there aren't many people left here at the university," Damien muttered as he stared at the scene.

The headless horseman stepped forward and said, "Master, I want to patrol around and keep this place safe from enemies."

Damien gave a short nod. "Alright. But don't go too far from this area. And try to move and kill silently—we can't risk drawing in a zombie horde right now."

The headless horseman knelt and saluted before heading downstairs, while Damien stayed on the rooftop, watching the chaos unfold.

Above him, the sky had turned dark, signaling the chaos going on around the world.

Damien then decided it was time to go back down and take care of things inside the building first.

When he reached the second floor, he saw Alice and Jennifer had already prepared a variety of food on the table.

Seeing Damien's surprised expression, Alice quickly explained, "There was a lot of food stored here. If we just leave it, it'll go bad. Don't worry, there's plenty more in the fridge, and they even have a cold storage room here."
