-----

My name is Shalini Singh. I am thirty years old, a married woman, and a school teacher. I was married at eighteen. I have one son, Avi, who is also eighteen now and studies in my own class.

People often say I don't look like a mother. At five feet eight inches, with a narrow waist, heavy full breasts, and a thick, round backside that fills out every pair of leggings I wear, I draw eyes even when I try not to. Most days I dress carefully—long kurtis, proper dupattas, modest salwar suits. But that morning, everything went wrong.

It was two months ago.

Avi and his father had left early for his grandparents' house. I was supposed to go with them, but I had a test scheduled and still needed to print the papers. By the time they finally left, it was already 5:30. I had to reach school soon.

In my rush I bathed quickly, ate a few bites, and pulled on the first clothes my hands found. A sleeveless, nearly transparent georgette kurti—deep-necked, backless, held together at the front by a thin chain. Underneath, a black bra that did little to hide the shape of my breasts. Below, skin-tight white cotton leggings that clung to every curve of my hips and thighs. I didn't even notice how much skin was showing until I was already on my scooty. My hair was only half-tied. I grabbed a dupatta at the last second and left.

The front gate of the school was still locked. Thankfully I had the key to the back gate from the previous evening. I parked my scooty, went straight to the computer room, and printed the papers. When I checked the time, it was only 6:10. An entire hour remained before anyone else would arrive.

I walked to my classroom and sat at my desk.

My feet were aching from the hurried morning. I slipped off my sandals and pressed my thumbs into the soles, trying to ease the pain.

A soft sound made me look up.

Rohit stood at the door.

He was one of my students—quiet, straightforward, the kind of boy who rarely spoke unless necessary. At eighteen he was tall, lean but broad-shouldered, with a calm face that rarely showed what he was thinking.

He paused when he saw me, eyes flickering once over my outfit before he looked away and said politely, "Good morning, Ma'am."

He walked to the last bench and sat down.

"You're very early," I said, still rubbing my foot. "It's only six."

"Hostel wakes us at five, Ma'am. The food there is terrible, so I come early and eat at the canteen later." He hesitated, then moved to the bench closer to my desk, leaving his bag behind.

I nodded and continued pressing my fingers into my sole. The ache was deeper than usual.

After a moment of silence, Rohit's voice came again, quieter this time.

"Ma'am… are your feet hurting?"

I looked up. He was watching my hands.

"Yes. Since morning."

He was quiet for a second. Then he said, "I used to press my mother's and grandmother's feet at home. If you want… I can do it."

The classroom was empty. The corridor outside was silent. No one would come for at least forty minutes.

I should have said no. A teacher does not let her student press her feet. But the pain was real, and his offer was spoken so simply, without any hint of mischief, that I found myself nodding.

"Alright. But sit under the desk. If anyone walks in, it will look… inappropriate."

He stood up immediately, walked around, and lowered himself under the wooden desk, out of sight from the door. I turned my chair slightly, extended my legs, and placed my feet near him.

I had forgotten about the socks.

In my rush I had worn the same cotton socks from the previous night. The moment my feet were close to him, I became aware of the faint, warm scent. Embarrassment flooded me. "Rohit, wait—my socks… I didn't change them. They might—"

"It's fine, Ma'am," he said quickly. His voice was steady. "They don't smell bad."

I didn't believe him, but he had already taken one foot in both hands. His palms were warm. He pressed his thumbs into the arch with firm, practised pressure. A small breath escaped me at the relief.

He worked slowly. First the right foot, then the left. His fingers moved over my soles, along the sides, pressing into the ball of each foot and then gently stretching my toes. The pain began to fade, replaced by a strange, spreading warmth.

After a few minutes, he spoke again, almost carefully.

"Ma'am… the socks are making it hard to press properly. They're rubbing against my hands. May I take them off?"

My throat felt dry. I should have refused. Instead, after a long pause, I said softly, "Okay."

He peeled the socks off one by one. The air of the classroom touched my bare skin. His hands returned, now directly on my feet—warmer, more certain. He pressed deeper, thumbs circling, fingers sliding along the sensitive skin of my arches.

I leaned back slightly in the chair. My eyes half-closed. The transparent kurti shifted with the movement, the chain at the front pulling a little tighter between my breasts. I was aware of how much skin was visible, of how the backless design left my spine exposed, of how the white leggings clung to my thighs.

Rohit said nothing more. He simply continued. His touch remained respectful at first—but gradually it slowed. The pressure became softer, more lingering. His fingers traced the shape of my feet as if memorising them. Once, the tip of his thumb brushed along the underside of my toes in a way that made my breath catch.

I opened my eyes and looked down.

He was focused entirely on my feet, head slightly bowed, dark hair falling over his forehead. From my position I could see the concentrated line of his mouth. There was no smile, no obvious expression of desire—only quiet attention. And somehow that made it more intense.

A strange awareness settled over me. I was the teacher. He was the student. Yet he was the one on the floor, hands on my bare feet, while I sat above him. The difference in our positions felt sharper than it should have.

I didn't tell him to stop.

Outside, the school remained silent. The clock on the wall moved past 6:25. My feet no longer hurt. In place of the ache was a slow, unfamiliar heat that had nothing to do with muscle pain.

Rohit's thumbs pressed into the centre of my soles again, firmer this time. A soft sound left my throat before I could stop it.

He paused.

Then, very quietly, he asked, "Is the pressure alright, Ma'am?"

I looked down at him. For the first time that morning, our eyes truly met. Something unspoken passed between us in that short second—an understanding that the line we were near had already begun to blur.

"Yes," I said. My voice sounded different to my own ears. "It's… fine. Continue."

He lowered his gaze and returned to my feet.

I sat there in the quiet classroom, transparent kurti clinging to my skin, white leggings stretched over my hips, and my student's hands moving slowly over my bare feet. I told myself it was only a massage. Only relief for tired muscles.

But deep down, I already knew.

Something had started.

And I was not sure I wanted to stop it.
