When William arrived at Veronica's mansion, the gate was locked . He pressed the horn twice and a moment later, the wrought iron doors glided open.
Chul, the long-time house attendant, stepped forward and opened the gate as William pulled in. He bowed respectfully when William stepped out of his car.
"Good evening, Mr. Adam," he said. "Miss Veronica said you might come today."
"Is she inside?" William asked.
"Yes, sir."
William nodded and walked inside. The living room was elegant, chandeliers glowing overhead, marble floors polished like mirrors, art lining the walls. Veronica stepped in from the hallway a moment later, wearing a soft silk robe tied at the waist. Her beauty had a quiet impact on him.
"I thought you wouldn't come," she said as she approached.
"I needed to clear my head, and you're the only one that could help me do that" he replied staring at her bare thigh, lustfully.
She leaned in and kissed him softly, leading him to a chair, where they both sat down.
"What should I offer you?" She asked rubbing his hand.
"Soda is fine" He said, smiling sweetly at her.
She left and came back with a bottle of soda drink.
"I was scared last night," she said softly as she sat down "You could've died, Will."
"Yeah, It was a terrible night."
"And your father?" she asked. "Did he call back?"
"No," William said flatly. "He didn't. I mean why would he?" He said and chuckled bitterly.
Veronica studied him for a moment, then spoke quietly "You don't deserve that. I mean, the way your dad treats you like a failure. It's not right."
"Don't bother about him" he said and turned to her. "I came to thank you. If you hadn't stepped in, I don't know how that would've ended."
"You don't have to thank me," she said softly. "I did what anyone who cares about you would have done."
He held her gaze and gave her a small nod. "Still. I appreciate it."
She smiled faintly and squeezed his hand. Then her tone shifted, a little bit serious.
"There is… something I wanted to talk to you about."
William leaned back. "Go ahead."
She hesitated, before speaking. "Do you remember the new Elora Vancross couture collection I mentioned last week? The one they released in Paris?"
"The one with only three pieces made? I remember it."
"My best friend, Ariel already bought one. And Melissa is trying to get one too. That means one will be left, and I want it. I won't let them think they're above me."
William looked at her, before asking "How much is it?"
Her voice dropped slightly as she said, "Eighty-five million won. It's not the money that is the problem, but how to get it. It's not easy to get it, and it's worth more than money. It's status. And in my world, status is survival. You know that, right?."
He didn't answer immediately. He didn't like vanity, but he understood power plays. He had been raised in them.
"You're really serious about this," he said.
"Yes," she replied calmly. "I don't like competing with people. But I won't be underestimated."
He studied her a moment longer, then nodded once. "Alright. I'll get it for you, I don't want my woman looking less than anyone," he said, his gaze steady on her. "You're William Adam's woman, you're supposed to look the best."
"Oh! my dear, you are the best", Veronica said jumping into him and gave him a passionate kiss and he grabbed her waist returning the kiss with the same passion. When the kiss ended, he grabbed her chin forcing her gaze to meet his.
"You owe me dinner for that, babe." He said with a smirk.
"Yes my dear, anytime", she replied staring at him with her sweetest smile.
"So, are we still going to the new park. You promised me, remember?" Veronica said raising a brow. "Melissa has already gone there with her boyfriend. She was just narrating about the place. It sounded really fun and it's also has a VIP suite for couples. Although, Mellisa couldn't make it to the top VIP, but you can. And I want to boast to her that I made it there. It's not that I was jealous, I just want to go there and have a good time with my man" She said, acting spoilt.
"If that makes you happy, Let's go then," he said and she smiled. "Give me ten minutes."
He watched her disappear down the hallway "I guess that she is too materialistic and a little bit spoilt but for some reason, I liked that about her." He thought as he watches her disappear.
In Veronica's room, she almost pulled all the clothes in her Wardrobe down, looking for what will make her look the best and the same time match with William's outfit. Even if he was wearing a simple pair of shoes, he still looks elegant in it.
After what felt like forever, she finally got a dress that she believed will draw attention.
She slipped into the perfect dress and glanced at the mirror. As usual, beautiful reflection of herself was staring back at her.
"I can't believe that I am finally dating Williams Adam, after so many years of trying to draw his attention" She murmuredas a sly smirk tugged at the side of her lips.
She could still remember back then in school. She was among the girls that was crazy about him. She had always tried to stay close to him, trying to do something or say things to make him laugh. While others thought she was interesting and funny, William saw her as a lousy personality.
At first she thought that Williams liked her, and he was just pretending. She thought so because every guy in school wanted to go out with her back then and she was the campus belle. She never thought Williams could disliked her until one day, she mistakenly eavesdrop in his conversation with his friends and that was when she heard him tell his friends how much he disliked her.
Since that day, she tried to stay away from him in other to protect her honor. She lied to her friends that she wasn't interested in him because he was too rude and arrogant.
When she thought she had lost him, they met again, and he fell right into her charms. Though, he doesn't seem to be very much into her.
"But, Love isn't found, it's built. And I will build his love for me piece by piece until he can't breathe without me. Then, the Adam Empire will already be in my hands." She said dramatically.
After a light make up, she picked up a set of shoe that matches the dress, slipped into them, and stepped out of her room.
By the time she got to the sitting room, Williams was already dosing off. The sound of her shoes woke him up, and they both left the house holding each other, before getting into his car and zooming off.
