After that incident, I returned to bed, but sleep eluded me. It became clear that the dark wolves were actually servants of the dark gods, and Dae and Devyck were intertwined in this dark fate; everything started to make sense.
Dae had turned away from his mate, Tiana, due to his allegiance to darkness, while Devyck, as I learned, had brutally killed his own mate in a sacrificial act.
Zara took the time to explain everything to me, and I was certain she had no reason to deceive me. It was ironic that I found it hard to trust the words of my own mates. I had wept profusely the day before, and she had been there for me throughout my sorrow.
The truth was painful; even Dae, whom I had trusted, was pretending to care for me, while i was a lamb led to slaughter.
