"Miss Ruby, are you awake?" Mary's voice came softly from behind the door.
"Y...yes. Give me a few minutes." Ruby hurried to the dresser to grab a robe and caught a glimpse of her own gloomy reflection in the vanity mirror. She slipped the robe on, rushed to the bathroom to splash water on her face, then went to answer the door.
"Good morning, Miss Ruby. I'm sorry to wake you." Mary said, noticing the sadness shadowing Ruby's eyes despite her effort to hide it.
"It's fine." Ruby forced a smile, desperate to mask the ache in her chest. "Is there something you need?"
"You have a visitor," Mary replied calmly.
"A visitor?" Ruby frowned. "Who would come this early?" She glanced at the wall clock and realized it was already past 8:37 AM
"Mr Treshvire."
"Mr Treshvire...as in Kai?" Ruby's eyes widened.
"Yes, ma'am."
"What does he want?" Ruby asked, her voice tightening, startling Mary.
"He didn't say, ma'am."
"Where is he now?"
"In the living room."
