The orc village was anything but quiet this morning, something had been rapidly killing off their hunting parties. This had led to a dramatic increase in how fast they needed to produce more eggs. If not for the artifact that they centred their village on aiding they would have nearly been wiped out over the past few days.
Yet even though they managed to preserve the numbers the hatchlings spawned from the artifact were… lacking. This left the older and higher leveled individuals of the clan to worry about how they can possibly meet the ever increasing demands of their unless master. Already several of the most promising member of their village had been sacrificed to appease the litch, but now that it's long time adversary in the form of the Snow Leopard beastkin had been wiped out it seemed to have lost interest in the orcs as a tool.
Couple this with the continual overuse of the artifact and the elders of the clan were becoming very worried indeed.
Thankfully they seemed to have been given a reprieve from the slaughter of their hunters last evening which had given them a chance to rapidly hatch a few more batches overnight. They now stood at close to 150 Orc's, granted almost 100 of them were below level 20 but they hoped that by increasing the size of their hunting parties it might discourage whatever was hunting them to back down or find easier prey.
Oh how wrong they were.
Violet and Luna had managed to creep close to the entrance to the valley in the pre dawn light and were just awaiting the right opportunity before they began their assault. Currently they could spot 2 orc warriors standing guard in the entrance, from their observations they knew however that their would be a further 2 at the far end of the entrance around the bend.
"What are we waiting for exactly?" Asked a confused dragon that was simply eager for violence.
"For more orcs to arrive at the entrance."
"And why wait for more to arrive and not just attack now?"
"Because we want to draw as many as we can outside of the valley so it will be easier to retreats if we get overwhelmed." Explained a mildly frustrated Luna for the 3rd time already. "We've been over this before why are you still asking about it?"
"To distract you." Was violets simple response. It did however thourghly distract Luna and she would have stumbled if she were walking.
"Wha. Why are you trying to distract me?" She asked with some incredulity.
"You are all tense and jittery. Should be more relaxed. It's only a fight don't get worked up too much of you will make a mistake." The Arctic Leopard stared at the dragon for a long moment before letting out a huff of air and a light laugh.
"Yeah I suppose your right." She bumped her shoulder with her companion and smiled gratefully at her. "Thanks Violet, your always looking out for me." Violet didn't respond to that but the wagging of her tail gave away how happy she was with that statement.
Before they could exchange any more banter however, the sound of approaching footsteps caused them both to tense and ready themselves for the incoming fight.
Several long seconds later a veritable hoard of orcs came marching out of the valley entrance. "Wha.. how are their that many!? I count 20? No 25? Orcs there?" Was lunas disbelieving response to seeing that many orcs leave. Now out of this number only 5 were either warriors or scouts, but that is still quite the amount of foes they needed to beat.
However for our young dragon she had an entirely different reaction. "Oh this is going to be fun! Can we start?!" Sighing at her companions eager excitement Luna shook her head but never the less nodded her head as she agreed to begin their battle.
To start the fight off they decided to begin the fight with a veritable barrage of bolt spells, be them void or ice. The orcs that were still partially exiting the valley were suddenly bombarded by a seemingly endless wave of exploding and freezing projectiles.
BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, GRAWWWW!
Around 6 of the gathered orcs fell from that first opening salvo alone whilst it injured several more. Violet was using the basic exploding form of her magic for its ability to inflict damage on multiple of opponents at a time.
With the opening barrage over Luna dashed forwards, her spear held tightly in her heads as a layer of ice grew over her body and razor sharp ice crystals grew over the top of her spear. With a yell of her own she unleashed a flurry of strikes at the nearest orcs, she managed to remove one head and badly damage another with two quick blows to the chest of the one next to it.
Violet was not idle during this and moved on from void bolts to launching her spears. Whilst it was possible for her bolts to kill in one she had to aim expertly, her spears on the other hand could easily blow a hole in an orcs chest and carry enough power to impact another one behind it before exploding now. She made great use of that now as she unlesshed spear after spear.
Violet was to aim for the higher leveled foes whilst Luna gathered the attention of the lower leveled but greater numbered foes. The two worked together flawlessly by now thanks to the amount of fights they participated in. With Luna effortlessly avoiding any spear that got too close whilst Violet in turn would occasionally summon a shield to block a attack that looked to be getting a touch too close, or was arriving at a odd angle for Luna to avoid.
The group of freshly spawned hatchlings stood no chance against the ferocity of their assult and the more experienced warriors and scouts also stood no chance against Violets ready magics, regardless of how they moved or what they hid behind a spear of ethereal darkness would seal them out and end their existence.
The battle was quick but bloody. The shear aggression of the two companions overwhelmed what semblance of defence the orcs could put up. Even when the backup guards arrived all they achieved was bloodying the claws of a dragon that decided to get up close and personal for the last few foes in order to work on staying above half her mana. After all it wouldn't do to use it all in the first exchange now.
As so in the span of less than 5 minutes our two companions stood in a scene of carnage. Bodies and body parts lay scattered around them. Some of the corpses resembled ice statues whilst others had gaping holes in their chests or simply lacked a head. But regardless of where one were to look they could all be assured of one simple thing. Out of the 29 orcs that were present for this battle, not a single one still lived.
And now they only had a further 120 left to go…
