Chapter 41 - "The Accident"

Se-Ri's POV

It was raining again that night. I didn't have an umbrella. I didn't care.

I was crossing a street near some traffic lights — the ones Leo and I used to wait at holding hands like teenagers.

I didn't see the scooter until it was too close.

A flash.

A screech.

Pain.

Everything turned black.

Somewhere Between Sleep and Reality....

There was a sound. Soft. Familiar. Like breathing near my ear.

A hand holding mine.

I tried to speak, but it came out as a whimper. My body was too heavy, the pain too thick.

But the hand didn't let go.

I knew that grip.

Leo…?

I drifted again.

I woke up hearing voices.

There were white walls.

A dull beep somewhere close.

It was morning...

Ren was there, holding my bag.

Amisha looked like she hadn't slept.

And Leo…

Leo was standing at the window.

Back turned.

Motionless.

When I stirred, his body stiffened.

And before I could call his name —

He left.

No words.

No glance.

Gone.

I didn't think.

I tore the blanket off.

I stood even though my leg was screaming.

The IV pulled, blood spotting down my arm.

"Leo!" I shouted, stumbling into the hallway.

He was already near the elevator.

"Leo—!"

I didn't care if the bandage opened, if I collapsed.

He didn't turn.

I fell to my knees on the white tile.

"You promised me I would never feel alone again!" I cried out.

My voice echoed off the sterile walls.

"Leo… I am alone… Please… Come back…"

I broke down.

Shaking.

Sobbing like a child.

Ren caught me.

Amisha wrapped her arms around my shoulders.

But I wasn't reaching for them.

I was still holding out my hand to a man

who wouldn't turn around.
