He didn't get the chance.
Before he got to them, a grey blur zipped past him— Lulu.
The kitten darted across the garden, brushing against Alex's ankles.
He stumbled, arms flailing as he tried to regain balance.
"Careful not to—" Felix started, but it was too late. He ran forward, trying to catch him, but his fingers only brushed against the edges of Alex's sleeve.
Alex tipped and fell backwards into the compost tip with a splat.
Felix gasped. "Lulu!" He hurriedly helped Alex up. "My goodness. Look what you've done."
Standing up, Alex groaned. He was covered in compost.
Lulu only meowed guiltily and darted under a nearby shrub.
Adrian stood on the side, shoulders shaking as he tried to stifle his laughter.
Felix threw him a glare before turning back to Alex.
"I'm so sorry," Felix muttered. "You need a shower. Let's get you hosed down before going inside."
Felix led Alex to the side and hosed him down, then led him inside the house to shower and change into new clothes.
