Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: The Celestial Dragon’s Steward

Rakuya put the pieces together with a single glance.

Now he understood why the Marines outside the base had stared at him with fear, envy, and shock. With a single order from Steel Bone Kong, everything made sense.

The paper had also given him the date.

Sea Circle Calendar, Year 1495.

Which meant the Great Pirate Era had not yet begun.

Right now, three pirate crews dominated the seas.

The Flying Pirates led by Golden Lion Shiki. The Whitebeard Pirates led by Edward Newgate. And lastly, the Roger Pirates.

Three names that tied knots in the Marines' guts.

"So I landed right in the age when legends are rising."

"Come on."

Rakuya waved a hand and continued strolling through the Sabaody Archipelago.

Without noticing, he and Bastille had walked from the sixties down into the teens.

This zone was lawless, crawling with criminals and pirates, the air humming with trouble.

Rakuya stepped into a lavishly decorated bar.

It was loud. Men lifted heavy mugs and poured liquor down their throats, laughing and swearing over the noise. Behind the counter, the owner polished crystal glasses while young servers hurried about with trays.

The place was big, the crowd bigger, a jumble of faces and voices.

"Lord Bruz, could you put in a good word for me before the Celestial Dragon. I have top-grade girls. I promise you will be satisfied."

In a well-lit corner, a man lounged in a chair as if it were a throne. A clean white cloth was spread beneath him, and his face twisted with displeasure whenever he glanced at the rough pirates nearby, contempt plain in his eyes.

At his side stood a short-haired youth who bowed and scraped with practiced smiles.

"Hmm. If you entertain me well, I will speak for you before Lord Saint Charmaque."

"Thank you, my lord. With your word, I am content."

The short-haired youth beckoned. A red-haired woman with a revealing dress, long lines and a dancer's sway stepped from the crowd to stand before Bruz.

"Lord Bruz, this is the one I prepared for you. Do you approve."

The youth hovered, fawning.

"Not bad. Hahaha. Ike, you know my tastes."

Bruz's eyes gleamed with open lust. His right arm swept the redhead into his lap without the slightest restraint.

"Ow, my lord, you are so strong."

The woman wriggled faintly, then melted against him, letting his hands roam.

"Haha. Come, little beauty. Drink with me."

Bruz drank, all arrogance and indulgence, while the short-haired youth kept bowing and grinning.

Then a scar-faced pirate shouldered through the crowd and stopped in front of Bruz, a crooked smile on his lips.

"Hey. Our captain wants that girl. Be smart and hand her over. Otherwise the Axe Pirates will cut you all down."

"Nani."

Bruz's fun was interrupted, his mood instantly soured.

"My lord…"

The redhead's face paled. She snuggled deeper into Bruz's arms, soft and trembling, the picture of helplessness.

"It is fine," Bruz said coldly. "On Sabaody, aside from the Celestial Dragons themselves, who can touch me."

He hugged the woman tighter, eyes flashing with disgust and anger. He glared at the scarred pirate.

"What is an Axe Pirate. Call your captain here. If he does not apologize properly today, I will beat him until his own mother cannot recognize him."

"You order me around. Because you are big and wide. Or because that face is so wonderfully ugly," the scarred man sneered, arms folded.

"Impudent. You dare defy the steward of a Celestial Dragon. Believe it or not, I will kill you where you stand."

Bruz exploded, shoving the woman aside as flames burned in his eyes.

"What."

The scar-faced pirate's smugness shattered. Terror swallowed his expression.

"Ce… Celestial Dragon… steward."
