Chapter 5 - YOU HAVEN'T CHANGED

Jungkook's POV

The headlights rushed toward me. For a second, I thought it was the end. But before the impact, someone pulled me back with force. I stumbled and crashed against a solid chest.

My breath shook. The only thing clear was the face in front of me.

Taehyung.

"You…?" I whispered.

His grip on my arm was firm, protective. His sharp eyes locked on mine.

"You really don't value your life, do you?"

I wanted to argue, but my voice failed. All I could do was stare.

Later, he walked me home. My legs felt weak, and when I fumbled with the keys, he said softly,

"Sit down. You look pale."

I hated how natural he sounded, but I gave in and sat on the couch.

"…Water," I murmured.

He fetched a glass and handed it to me. Our fingers brushed. I quickly looked away. He watched me in silence, unreadable, until I asked,

"…Why did you save me?"

"Do you even need to ask?" His reply only confused me more.

As he left, he paused at the door.

"Jungkook… you haven't changed. You're still the same as before."

The words echoed long after he was gone.

The Next Morning – Classroom

The sunlight was bright, but my mind carried his words. I walked straight to him, unable to hold it in.

"Why did you say that yesterday?" I demanded. "That I haven't changed. That I'm the same. We only met recently. You don't even know me."

He leaned back, calm.

"Don't I? Since the beginning of my memory, there's only you. Even if I forget the world, Jungkook, I remember you."

My chest tightened. I wanted to call him wrong, but his eyes gave me no room.

He leaned closer.

"Why are you shaking? Nervous?"

"I'm not!" I snapped.

"Then look me in the eyes and say it."

I froze. My gaze slipped away.

He smirked.

"See? You can't."

Lunch Break – Canteen

I sat in a corner, hoping to hide. But Jimin found me.

"Kookie! Come sit with us!" he said cheerfully, dragging Suga along.

Taehyung joined too, sitting beside me like it was natural.

"Ohhh, is this a double date?" Jimin teased.

I nearly choked.

"Yah! Stop saying nonsense!"

Suga sipped his coffee.

"With the way you two stare at each other, it does look like one."

Jimin laughed.

"See? Even Suga-hyung agrees!"

I groaned, covering my face, while Taehyung smirked at my misery. His voice dropped near my ear.

"Don't be shy. They're only telling the truth."

My heart raced, and I shifted away.

Evening – Walk Back

Classes ended. I walked fast, but his footsteps followed.

"Stop following me," I muttered.

"I'm not. I'm just walking the same way," he said.

At the crossroads, the sky glowed orange. He stopped.

"You really haven't changed, Jungkook. Not even a little."

"Stop saying that! I've changed. I'm not who I was before."

He smiled faintly.

"If that were true… you wouldn't still be looking at me like this."

Before I could reply, he turned and walked away, leaving me standing in the fading light.

That Night – Jungkook Alone

I lay awake. His words repeated in my mind.

"Since the beginning of my memory… there's only you."

"You haven't changed."

I pressed my hand to my chest. My heartbeat was restless.

"Why does it feel like he's known me forever," I whispered, "when I've never met him before…"

The silence gave me no answers.

But one thing was clear—this was only the beginning.
