Chapter 73: The Goddess and the Swordmaiden

Haruhi Suzumiya was no ordinary girl. Having spent her middle school years more deeply entrenched in her own eccentric "settings" than any other student, she accepted the reality of the Gray Diary with almost no reservations.

So, if this Diary is real, does that mean everyone who holds one is the "heroine" of their own story? Haruhi mused, clutching the gray book. And was the world I lived in before this "Transmigrator" arrived also just a setting for some work?

She wasn't surprised by this logic. After all, someone as special as her was naturally born to be a protagonist. If anything, her recent strange dreams of attending North High and wearing a different uniform felt like exactly the kind of destiny a heroine would face.

As she read further, she discovered she was part of the "Second Batch." A dozen girls had already received diaries a month prior, changing their fates through the "spoilers" provided by the person writing. Haruhi didn't feel envy—she didn't need to—but she did feel a prickle of curiosity. If she had received the Diary a month ago, would she already understand the meaning of those dreams?

Superpowers, aliens, time travelers... and now Yokai and Jujutsu Sorcerers, she thought, her eyes shining not with fear, but with a predatory longing. The King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, reviving in six months? The Shibuya Incident? A Night Parade of a Hundred Demons?

If the world was truly about to become this chaotic, her lifelong wish for excitement was finally coming true.

She tested the Diary's properties. "Disappear," she commanded in her mind. The gray book vanished instantly. "Reappear." It materialized on her desk.

"It's real," she whispered, a fervent gaze taking hold. "The Transmigrator is real. The resurgence is real. My school introduction... it wasn't a warning. It was a prophecy."

The Blue-Haired Student of Kyoto

While Haruhi embraced the supernatural, other newcomers were far less composed.

At Kyoto Jujutsu High, Kasumi Miwa sat on the edge of her bed, drenched in sweat. She was an ordinary girl from a poor family who had no Innate Technique. She had only entered this world because her talent for Kendo was noticed by the master of the New Shadow Style, who helped her form a "Binding Vow" to learn the Simple Domain.

Now, looking at the Gray Diary by her pillow, she felt a new, coercive Binding Vow taking hold. She could never speak of this book's existence, or the New Shadow Style's price would be her very life.

"I'm going to cry," Miwa whimpered. She was just a Grade 3 Sorcerer who practiced hard to support her younger brothers. She wasn't like her idol, Gojo Satoru, who could ignore the world's petty rules with his "strongest" power.

She opened the Diary, hoping for a prank, but her heart shattered.

[The legendary Ryomen Sukuna will revive in six months and kill the strongest sorcerer of modern times, Gojo Satoru.]

The person writing—someone calling himself Voldemort—wrote about Gojo's death with a casual, almost mocking tone. To Miwa, Gojo was a god. Since he had executed the defector Suguru Geto the previous year, his position as the "Strongest" was undisputed.

"How can he write this so flippantly?" Miwa puffed out her cheeks in anger. She wanted to slash the Diary with her katana, but even with her Simple Domain active, the book remained indestructible.

I have to report this! she thought. The Binding Vow prevents me from mentioning the Diary, but it doesn't stop me from warning them about Sukuna's revival!

She rushed to the Principal's office, her mind a whirlwind of panic and duty. Before she could knock, the door swung open. Gakuganji Yoshinobu, the rock-and-roll loving Principal of Kyoto High, looked at her over his cane.

"Miwa. You're here. I was just about to send for you."

"Principal! Is there... a mission?" Miwa stammered, momentarily forgetting her warning.

"Have you heard of the Shinomiya Family?" Gakuganji asked.

"The Shinomiya Group? The conglomerate worth 200 trillion yen?"

Gakuganji nodded. "The daughter of the Shinomiya house, Kaguya Shinomiya, apparently possesses extraordinary talent. The family contacted the Jujutsu higher-ups to confirm it. Since their base is here in Kyoto, we need to investigate. If she has potential, we must bring her to Kyoto High before the Tokyo branch tries to poach her."

The Recruitment of Kaguya

In this era, both Kyoto and Tokyo Jujutsu High struggled with enrollment. Most supernatural talents were absorbed by ancient shrines or temples. Furthermore, Cursed Energy—born from human negativity—was often looked down upon by traditional Onmyoji and spirit mediums.

The recent defection of Suguru Geto, who wanted to massacre all "monkeys" (non-sorcerers), hadn't helped the Jujutsu World's reputation.

For Miwa, being a Sorcerer was simply a job—a way to earn money for her siblings. Out-of-town missions to wealthy families like the Shinomiyas were safe, lucrative, and perfect for someone with her polite personality.

"Tokyo shouldn't actively fight us for her," Gakuganji continued. "But if there are complications, do not cause a scene in the capital. Just show the grace of Kyoto High and let the girl choose."

Miwa bowed deeply. She had no idea that the girl she was sent to recruit, Kaguya Shinomiya, already held a Black Diary and was currently being mentored by Renji Miyauchi through the shadows.

As Miwa left the office, she gripped her sword hilt. She still had to find a way to warn Gojo Satoru about the "Voldemort" prophecy without dying from her Binding Vow. The weight of the world was suddenly very heavy on the shoulders of a Grade 3 Sorcerer.
