Chapter 47 - Chapter 46: Little Martial Uncle Jerry

Chapter 46: Little Martial Uncle Jerry

A yellow mouse?

Hearing her little sister's words, Ruri Gokou froze. Something about it felt oddly familiar, as if she had read of such an existence before. But there was no time to chase the thought. She rushed to check her sisters.

Tama-chan looked fine. Being so young, she didn't yet understand ghosts or monsters. To her, the mouse was simply cute, and she peered around the room eagerly, searching for it.

Hinata, on the other hand, was ten—and at an age where her imagination turned shadows into horrors. Having recently discovered her elder sister's secret powers, her small mind had already spun countless ghost stories. At the sight of the mouse, she broke down, burying her face into Ruri's chest and sobbing that she didn't want to die, nor lose her sister to monsters.

Ruri fumbled for words, but before she could comfort Hinata, a tiny hand appeared from the side, offering tissues.

She instinctively murmured thanks, took them, and began wiping her sister's tears—

And then froze.

Even Tama-chan's hands weren't that small.

Her gaze shifted, stiff as stone. A brown-yellow mouse stood before her, smiling warmly, waving as if to say hello.

"Ah! So it's you!" Takeda Misae gasped from behind. "The little troublemaker! I sensed something the moment I entered. It really was you!" She snapped her staff into position, talismans ready, her voice sharp. "Girl, take your sisters and leave! I'll handle this monster!"

"Wait—wait a second!" Ruri darted in front of her, panicked. "I know this mouse. He's not a monster!"

Her sudden movement nearly knocked the old exorcist off balance. Misae stumbled, steadying herself on her staff, glaring. You knew it? After I wasted all this effort setting barriers, using my jade, and preparing talismans…

Meanwhile, Jerry stood atop the table, cheekily beckoning, clearly provoking her.

Ruri massaged her forehead. It all clicked now.

This was Jerry—the same Jerry Mysterious Person had written about in the diary, the one whose photo he had sent to the group. He had even joked that if they ever met Jerry, they should bow respectfully, calling him their "Little Martial Uncle."

And tonight's diary entry—"I left you some gifts"—made sense. Jerry had been sent to her house.

Her expression twisted in disbelief. A gift? Dropping a mouse into my home?

Still, she sighed and addressed him. "You're… Jerry, right? I'm Black Cat. Did Renji send you?"

Jerry puffed his chest, whistled proudly, then nodded. His gestures made it clear: he was here to freeload for a few days.

Tama-chan's eyes lit up. "Big Sis, you really know this mouse?!"

Even Hinata cracked open her eyes, staring in shock. Her worldview—already shaken—crumbled further. So my sister truly isn't normal anymore…

Ruri managed to usher both sisters back to their rooms before facing Misae. "Shenmu, this mouse's situation is… complicated. Kaguya Shinomiya knows too. Let me report it first."

She snapped a photo of Jerry. Ever the performer, he struck a heroic pose for the camera.

Minutes later, Misae's phone rang. Kaguya herself. The call was brief, but the "compensation" was heavy. When it ended, Misae said nothing more. She avoided even mentioning the jade and Dharma beads Jerry had stolen, tacitly surrendering them. Her gaze, however, lingered on Jerry, strangely wary.

Claiming she needed to report back to Lady Kaguya, she left without so much as a sip of tea.

Embarrassed by the misunderstanding, Ruri insisted on walking her to the station, apologizing all the way. Only after seeing her off did she trudge home.

And there she found another sight to leave her helpless.

Her "Little Martial Uncle" had made himself right at home.

Jerry reclined on the table like a feudal lord, nibbling orange slices Tama-chan fed him piece by piece, while Hinata clasped her hands in prayer as though worshipping a deity. Jerry, perfectly content, flicked his ears and continued watching TV.

In the group chat, the uproar began the moment Ruri posted photos and a video.

UMR: "Wait—so the Mysterious Person sent the mouse out? Why Black Cat's house first?"

Kasumigaoka Utaha: "Logically, if he's in Tokyo, why not send Jerry to one of us already here? How will he retrieve him?"

UMR suggested secretly attaching a tracker to Jerry. But Yukino quickly shut that down.

Yukino: "If the Mysterious Person let Jerry roam free, of course he accounted for that possibility. If you try, do you really think he won't prepare a 'surprise' for anyone who dares track him?"

The warning was enough. No one wanted to risk having their "dark history" exposed like Kaguya and Utaha had suffered in past diary entries.

Still, others wondered: could Jerry himself be persuaded to share secrets? He was, after all, only a mouse. Perhaps if they treated him well, he might change allegiances.

Ruri was skeptical. "He's too clever. His personality is just like Renji's—mischievous. If he told us anything, it'd probably be lies. Still… if anyone wants to try, you can come to my place and take him. My house is too small for such a great deity."

But when she glanced at Jerry teasing Tama-chan with playful tricks, she sighed.

Later that night, she asked gently, "Um… Little Martial Uncle, it's late. Hinata and Tama-chan need to sleep. Could I send them to bed first, and then you can keep watching TV?"

Jerry glanced at the wall clock. Ten-thirty. For Renji, that was the start of nightlife. But Jerry was a guest here. Children should sleep early.

He hopped down, patted Tama-chan's head, and gestured for her to rest.

But Tama-chan only pouted, wide awake, unwilling to leave her magical new friend.

Jerry stroked his chin. Then he remembered a Ripple technique for inducing sleep.

Blue arcs of energy flickered from his paw. Hinata gasped. She had seen her sister summon arcs before—but never this naturally, never this beautifully.

Jerry pressed his glowing paw lightly to Tama-chan's hand. Within seconds, she yawned, curled up, and drifted into peaceful sleep.

Hinata turned to her sister in awe. Did you know this technique too?

Ruri's cheeks burned. Of course she knew. The Mysterious Person had taught them at their first gathering. But while she could do it, it took her three to five minutes. Jerry had managed it in ten seconds.

She finally understood what Renji meant when he wrote, "Jerry's Ripple progress is frighteningly fast."

Despite having been in this world for only days, and lacking the girls' Reading Value support, Jerry's grasp of Ripple already far surpassed theirs.

Ruri's heart stirred. As a lifelong chuunibyou, obsessed with special powers, she longed for mastery. Yet her talent was meager.

Maybe, just maybe, this was why Jerry had been sent to her.

Wouldn't it be fine if he stayed here? she thought. Mice don't eat much. Even with our family's tight budget, we can manage one more mouth… And in return, I can learn from him.

Her lips curved slightly as she tucked Hinata and Tama-chan into bed.

"Alright, Little Martial Uncle," she whispered to Jerry once the girls were asleep. "It's just you and me now."

And in her heart, she vowed to wring every drop of Ripple knowledge she could from the clever little mouse who had made her house his den.
