Chapter 39

Mockery

Einver was not a madman. He did not harbor two souls in one body, nor any such superstition. Yet after collapsing in grief at the brutal death of his mother, he could no longer endure. His body shut down all emotions: sorrow, joy, melancholy—every feeling was buried deep within him, leaving only two behind: anger and vengeance.

For two full months in his world, Einver nurtured these two feelings within himself. Each day, the anger and vengeance grew stronger, until they consumed him entirely, and he committed that atrocious massacre. He slaughtered countless victims: innocent children who had no part in his mother's fate, the elderly, women, and men. Nearly a thousand lives were ended by his hand, in cold blood, without pause, for hours on end.

But that portion of his power, that savagery which had erupted within his body, was sealed away by his mother and his younger brother, Void, before he was sent into the Spiritual Earth Realm. Since his arrival here, and until this day, that part had been struggling to break free from its restraints, to seize the world, but could not—because of Einver's sheer willpower.

Now, however, after his will had long been erased, every chain and shackle was completely broken by Sin Ka. He had seized control of Einver's mind and will, yet had not bothered to delve deeper within. Had he done so, he would have found the beast crouched in Einver's depths. But Sin Ka, blinded by arrogance and pride, did not trouble himself, content with surface control.

And now, with Einver's will erased, a black shadow appeared within his mind, head bowed as if shackled and confined.

The sound of tearing and rending echoed around his body, and after a few moments the shadow slammed against the ground and raised itself, standing before Einver inside his own consciousness. Darkness coiled and surged around it. At first its face bore no features, but then twisted, burning red eyes emerged—within them a spiraling, destructive vortex, turning relentlessly, as though hell itself had finally opened its gates upon the mortal world.

A wide, terrifying smile stretched across its white teeth. The shadow lifted its right hand to shoulder height and opened it, then did the same with its left. Moments later, energy began to gather around its dark form. When it had amassed enough, it moved its hands and burst into thunderous laughter, so loud that Einver's inner world shook violently. His spiritual sea quaked under the crushing sound of the beast's laughter and its overwhelming aura of darkness.

The clash of powers between the beast and Einver's world enveloped the latter in a pitch-black aura. The beast now possessed everything that belonged to Einver—his spiritual sea, his traits, all of it.

In the real world, inside the chamber of important figures, Princess Sun Mi ordered the soldier to execute Mi Na and her daughter. The soldier stepped toward Einver to take the small child from his feet. But the moment he reached for her, a sword flashed with blinding speed and severed the soldier's neck with unmatched precision. His head rolled across the ground.

The princess and her uncle were struck dumb by what they saw, while sweat began to trickle down Sin Ka's brow. He tried to reassert control over Einver's mind, but at that exact moment Einver's lips curved into a devilish smile. A dark, bloodthirsty aura burst from his body, surging up from the depths of his vengeful heart and consuming everything.

Einver's power exceeded anything in the First Division of the Heavenly Realm. His aura could not be compared to that of others. By virtue of the dark force now raging within him, he was able to pierce into the Higher Division of the Earth Realm. After merging his dark aura with the aura of this new world, the aura of the spiritual sea, along with the power of the title Mad Slayer, a circle with a radius of two hundred meters formed. Everyone within that circle collapsed in terror. The title's effect activated, paralyzing all within its reach, even those of the First Division of the Heavenly Realm.

As the system calculated, one hundred fifty-nine people were affected by the title. Yet this paralysis would last only three minutes, after which the effect would vanish, the soldiers would be freed from Einver's suppression, and they would be able to crush him in an instant.

By fusing his dark aura with the aura of the new world, Einver prolonged the duration of the title, paralyzing all those of the Higher Division of the Earth Realm and below. Those in the First Division of the Heavenly Realm were paralyzed for less than three minutes, while those in the Higher Division merely trembled, though they would not reach him before the title's effect ended.

In the chamber of important figures, three people collapsed helplessly before Einver's towering shadow. The dark figure advanced, a grin carved across its face, its crimson eyes spinning like a vortex of death. Its laughter boomed, shaking the chamber, and then it fixed its gaze upon Sin Ka, who crouched trembling before him.

In a voice calm yet mocking, it spoke:

"Thanks to you… To tell the truth, I had no wish to be brutal with you. But now you shall die brutally. Still, I don't want people calling me insane, so I'll grant you a single wish, you filthy old man. Choose what you desire."

Einver's steps echoed through the chamber as he continued:

"Choose: shall I spare your wretched life, or your beloved daughter, the princess?"

Sin Ka stammered in a trembling voice:

"Thank you, thank you, my lord… I am sorry for what I did. My wish is to preserve my life, I beg you."

Einver looked upon him with scorn.

"Will you not save your precious daughter?"

The princess, Sun Mi, heard Einver's words and turned toward her uncle, weeping and pleading for her life. But Sin Ka made no move to protect her. He answered quickly, fearfully:

"No, my lord. Spare me, forgive my life, and kill her. I care nothing for her."

The princess broke into bitter sobs—not out of love for him, but because she had just lost her final chance at survival.

Einver laughed wildly, savagely:

"Damn humans! Whether here or elsewhere, all of them are scum! None deserve saving or sacrifice. Very well, I shall grant your wish, old man."

Sin Ka smiled in triumph, clutching desperately at the last straw of life. However slim the chance, he would seize it.

Einver stepped behind Sin Ka and handed him the sword taken from the dead guard's sheath.

"Go on, old man. Take it."

Sin Ka's body quivered as his eyes fixed on the blade.

"What do you mean by this, young master? I don't understand."

Einver gave him a gentle, mocking smile.

"You chose life. Very well, then take this sword and kill your beloved daughter."

Without hesitation, Sin Ka seized the sword and stood before the princess. Her body shook with terror and searing pain. She begged him desperately, but it was in vain. The faint smile on his face made his resolve clear.

He thought to himself:

"All I need do is kill this little whore and escape. All my past plans will be ruined, but what are plans compared to life? As for this bastard, he will be dealt with later."

Just then, a weary yawn broke the tension. Einver rubbed his face and eyes casually, then, in one swift, merciless strike, cleaved Sin Ka's head from his body.

The princess, still bowed in supplication, had not realized what had happened. Seconds later, she heard a dull thud. Raising her head, she saw her uncle's face—eyes wide with shock and terror—before the light faded from them and he died.

Einver's voice rang sharp, tinged with a mocking laugh:

"Damn it! I gave you a chance at survival, I gave you a choice, and you made it—so why drag it out, for hell's sake?"

He turned his gaze upon the princess. Her body was trembling uncontrollably. Within moments she fainted, but before she could collapse, a faint violet glow flickered in her eyes, then faded away, and she fell unconscious, powerless to resist.
