Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Setting Sail

[Welcome to the Mysterious Sea.]

[In the boundless ocean, there lie hidden bones and treasures.]

[In this world made up of oceans and islands, setting sail is everyone's ultimate dream.]

[Become an adventurer exploring new routes and mysterious regions, a pirate pursuing wealth by any means, or an extraordinary mastering mysterious powers who ventures across the seas chasing the sun...]

[Giant dragons soar in the sky, while sea demons sing upon the reefs.]

[The epic journey starts here.]

[Raise the sails, set sail!]

[Please name your character.]

[Please select your character's appearance.]

[Please draw your character's talents.]

The exquisite pixel-style CG made Rogel feel that this game might actually be quite interesting.

After naming the character after himself, Rogel began designing his character's appearance.

Medium-length hair, white coat, black shorts, straw sandals.

"Choosing an appearance is just changing clothes and hair color?"

"And the gender is actually fixed as male."

Rogel was speechless; the freedom to choose a character's appearance was even less than he expected.

"Never mind, I'll make do with it."

Realizing that this was just a pixel game and not very famous, Rogel couldn't be bothered to complain further.

[Drawing character talents...]

[1. Skilled Artisans (Elite), reduces stamina consumption and speeds up when upgrading or crafting tools. 3/3]

[2. Hei's Soul (Unique), an unknowable existence grants you special ability to control the shell of other creatures as a clone. 3/3]

[3. Farmer (Common), slightly increases crop growth speed when planting. 3/3]

Talent levels are divided into Common, Elite, Rare, Precious, Legendary, Mythical, and Unique.

There are three talent slots, with three opportunities to reset talents.

The second one is the top-level Unique, definitely no need to reset it.

Rogel chooses to reset the third talent.

[3. Mystic (Rare), you have studied Mysticism and extraordinary powers, allowing you to quickly understand and absorb mysterious knowledge. 2/3]

A Rare level talent, not bad.

"Next, reset the first one."

[1. Fishing Master (Legendary), you love fishing and have special talent and great luck in fishing, with a small chance of catching some advanced creatures, or getting weapons, equipment, and material items when fishing. 1/3]

"Not bad, let's keep it."

Rogel decided not to draw again since he had one last chance.

Having a Rare and a Legendary talent, along with a Unique one, was already quite good; getting a trash talent if drawn again would be frustrating.

So he called it quits while ahead.

"OK, officially start the game."

Upon confirming the talents, the game screen began to change.

[You were born on an island.]

[Your family has some assets, allowing you plenty of time to enrich your hobbies.]

[Fishing and reading are your greatest joys.]

[You love fishing, always using a crude bamboo rod you made to fish in your spare time, never returning empty-handed.]

[When reading books, you're quite interested in mysterious knowledge and have spent a lot of time researching, having some understanding of your own. However, the library on the island does not contain more knowledge on this.]

[You once had a special dream, where a faceless existence watched your brow, and since then, some wonderful changes occurred within your soul.]

[You have never told anyone about these changes.]

[Today is your eighteenth birthday.]

Your father gave you a small boat, and your mother gave you a kitten and a pearl symbolizing good luck.

[On this island, every child undergoes a voyage as a coming-of-age ceremony after turning eighteen; today is the day you set sail to leave your hometown.]

After a gentle soundtrack in the CG, Rogel's game character stood at the dock, next to a small wooden boat.

After hugging goodbye to family and friends, Rogel's pixel person slowly stepped onto the wooden boat.

"What the heck, setting out to sea with just a small boat?"

"Not afraid of dying, huh."

"What kind of devilish coming-of-age ceremony is this, no wonder the island is scarcely populated."

Rogel twitched the corner of his mouth.

It's needless to say the dangers of sailing on the sea; even a sailing master rich in knowledge would not dare to set out alone on a small boat.

However, he just casually grumbled a bit, as this was just a game, with story settings made for the sake of gameplay.

[Today's weather is fairly good, the wind and sun are pleasant, seagulls skim the water, and the sea glistens with light.]

After the text ended, Rogel found himself able to control the game character freely.

Rogel didn't rush to act, instead, he looked at the game settings and such.

There's a save and load function, no different from ordinary games.

Rogel casually saved a file.

He clicked the status bar in the upper right corner and saw the game character's attributes.

[Title: Rogel]

[Level: 1]

[Body: 5]

[Spirit: 5]

[Faith: 5]

[Tier: None]

[Special Skills: None]

[Life Skills: Fishing Lv1, Sailing Lv1, Mysticism Lv1, Cooking Lv1, Swimming Lv1...]

[Talents: Fishing Master, Hei's Soul, Mystic.]

Rogel maneuvered the little character to take a few steps left and right; there wasn't much space for activity on the small boat.

Thinking of returning to the center position, he found that the lazy cat curled up asleep was in his way, leaving the character dumbfounded and stepping in place on the bow.

"..."

The intention to set sail is good, but it's better not to set sail.

"The activity space is so small, with no main quest, could it be asking me to swim?"

Rogel feels a bit frustrated, finding the game somewhat perplexing.

Yet at this time, an astonishing scene unfolded.

Rogel's pixel character, apparently after warming up, suddenly jumped into the sea with a splash.

"Huh?"

Rogel was taken aback.

He hadn't touched the screen just now, but the game character moved on its own.

Could it be some kind of plot?

Waiting for a while, nothing happened.

"Did I unconsciously hit the jump-into-sea operation button?"

"There aren't any particular buttons."

"With no option to board the boat again, the little guy is probably going to drown in the sea."

On his phone interface, there were only movement and interaction buttons; holding the interaction button by the boat earlier never brought up any jump-into-sea interaction, nor was there an option to board the boat from the side.

This game really is quite strange.

"Can't get back on the boat, the stamina bar is depleting fast, forget it, die and restart."

Rogel thought maybe the game had some bug.

After all, it's a small, unheard-of game.

But just as Rogel finished saying this, the character inexplicably climbed back onto the boat.

"?"

Rogel had a face full of confusion.

After a moment of bewilderment, a seemingly absurd idea popped into his mind.

Could it be that the game has voice control?

Thinking of this, Rogel tentatively said to the phone, "Pet the cat?"

The next moment, an astonishing thing happened.

The pixel character actually squatted beside the little orange cat, reached out, and gently petted the kitten's head.

"Whoa, that's spooky!"

Rogel was shocked, almost dropping his phone.

This scene was truly unbelievable.

After rubbing his face vigorously, Rogel tried again, "Do a backflip?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the character bent his legs and performed a dazzling backflip.
