Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: Foolish Smile

Grumble~

A faint rumbling sound broke the silence.

Tian Wang awkwardly covered his stomach and grinned sheepishly at everyone present.

But at this moment, no one would laugh at him.

After all.

"Everyone must be hungry, right?"

Ke Jianghao moved his gaze from the computer screen and looked around.

They had rushed to the office to help immediately after class; it's been half a day since they last ate.

Realizing this, Ke Jianghao knew that staying in the office wasn't practical.

"Our target is temporarily set for the sister supermarket across the street from the school."

Lv Bai stood by the window: "Let's get ready to move."

The group gathered gradually, even Zheng Xiaoming swallowed a gulp of saliva and shakily stood up.

No matter how afraid they were to face the zombies, as long as they were sane, they knew they had to fight for survival while they still had strength.

Lv Bai slowly extended the end of the "thick rope" he had woven out the window.

In the process, he honestly explained the situation: "I must remind everyone, resources are limited, and I can't guarantee the rope's quality."

All he could do was be the first experimental sample himself.

"So… what if it breaks midway?" Tian Wang's face turned pale.

Hearing this question, Lv Bai turned around, re-evaluated the roughly two hundred-pound Tian Wang, and gave a gentle smile.

"Don't ask the Warrior of Light such dark questions."

He hesitated for a few seconds and then explained: "The worst is a fracture or something, as long as it's not head-first, there's no life-threatening danger."

"Pfft~" Wu Ya couldn't hold back and snickered.

Clearly, Tian Wang wasn't comforted; instead, he looked even more mournful.

However, this little diversion eased a lot of the original heavy atmosphere before the operation was to begin.

Lv Bai tied one end of the rope securely to the desk.

Then, supporting himself with one hand, he flipped and crouched on the windowsill: "I'll go down first. Wait for me to clear the zombies before coming down."

"Just you?"

Ke Jianghao frowned: "That's too risky."

During this time, he wasn't just looking up information.

He also took the opportunity to wrap textbooks around his arms to prevent zombie bites during a scuffle.

Of course, even being prepared, he didn't think he could face off a zombie head-on.

Once you've endured a zombie's body slam, you can understand the extent of their toughness.

In his view, it was already quite an achievement to work together and take down the blocking zombies.

Ke Jianghao gritted his teeth and grabbed the rope: "Let me go down first, like before, I'll distract the zombies, then you make your move."

Lv Bai tilted his head slightly and chuckled: "Think of it as repaying Classmate Wu's life-saving grace."

Before anyone could respond, Lv Bai gripped the rope and quickly slid down.

Honestly, his descent was so rapid that it barely seemed different from just jumping off.

Ke Jianghao, Wu Ya, and the others hurried to the window, watching the situation downstairs with worry.

Thud~

A crisp landing sound immediately caught the attention of several nearby zombies.

Lv Bai stood straight again, and while surveying his surroundings, he slowly drew the Eight-sided Han Sword from his back.

Faced with food dropping from the sky, no zombie could resist.

A dozen or so zombies in the open space, all drooling at the mouth, roared and charged at Lv Bai.

Although the number of zombies here was less than the other side of the teaching building, if they dragged on too long, they might attract more zombies over.

"Don't worry, I won't waste much of your time."

Lv Bai smiled and charged into the group of zombies, sword in hand.

Enhanced by the zombie virus, he could still handle a few zombies in an open space comfortably.

Ultimately, the same power with brains compared to none is a completely different concept.

A zombie with half its face torn off charged the fastest, its pale eyes devoid of any hint of humanity.

Because of this, Lv Bai felt no hesitation cutting it down.

As he rushed into the zombie crowd, he swung his sword.

The zombie was instantly beheaded; its half-rotted face flew high, as if signaling the start of a massacre.

Lv Bai's movements were simple and effective.

With each sword swing, a zombie fell.

Even though he was in the dangerous zombie horde, he moved as if strolling leisurely in his backyard.

No matter how the zombies lunged and bit, they couldn't truly attack him.

Notably, Lv Bai maintained a serene smile on his face throughout.

This scene, seen by those watching from the window, was not only incredibly shocking but also eerily strange.

"He's amazing, what class is he in?"

"Lv Bai, he... this..."

"Am I the only one who thinks he's dangerous?" Zheng Xiaoming shakily adjusted his glasses.

Ke Jianghao stood there stunned, unable to find suitable words.

Thinking back on how he had been pressuring such a person, he felt a shiver of fear.

Wu Ya, covering her mouth, found that the subtle feelings she'd developed for Lv Bai had turned into fear before they could grow.

Honestly, from an observer's standpoint, Lv Bai's mental state didn't seem normal.

...

Moments later.

The scattered limbs testified to the recent events.

Right under Lv Bai's feet, blood was still flowing.

However, he wasn't concerned about the lingering smell of blood around; instead, he reached out to touch his mouth, puzzled.

Just focusing on dealing with zombies, he couldn't manage his expressions at the time.

Only after the battle did he realize, to his horror, that he'd unconsciously been smiling.

Smiling in inappropriate situations is terrifying.

Even if it's closer to a goofy smile.

It's still terrifying.

Such a case can't simply be explained as a naturally cheerful disposition.

Fortunately, Lv Bai hadn't noticed any mental impact from this yet.

It was a small blessing amidst misfortune.

Taking a deep breath, he composed himself and called upward for the others to come down.

Notably, the "lifeline" woven from curtains and school uniforms wasn't as terrible quality-wise as expected.

At least, when Tian Wang used it, it only strained and squeaked a bit.

Everyone gradually made their way to the ground, gathering together, each casting occasional glances at Lv Bai.

Clearly, his drastically contrasting behavior was hard for anyone to relax about.

But given the situation, they had to handle it differently.

As the undoubtedly strongest in the group, even if something was off about Lv Bai, no one would want to drive him away.

Ke Jianghao hesitated for a moment before asking, "Lv Bai, you..."

"This isn't the place for talking."

Lv Bai could roughly guess what they wanted to ask, so he directly interrupted.
