Chapter 27 - Chapter 25: Methods, Courage, and Grit!

"I have no idea."

The young man stood up, couldn't help but chuckle, "Inspector Cheng, you may not know, but every intern inspector has to report to the fast checkpoint on their first day to prove their capabilities are sufficient for the job."

"How do you prove that?"

"It's simple." The young man said, picking up a few sheets of paper and walking out of the room, standing beside Cheng Ye and pointing into the distance, "See those trucks at the end of the passage waiting to leave the city? Yes, the third one, all the cargo declarations are here. But during our inspection, we found several items that didn't match."

"As long as you can find three discrepancies, you pass the assessment."

Following the young man's gesture, Cheng Ye squinted and scrutinized.

Currently, there were six trucks under inspection. The other five belonged to Westerners, but the third one was from Eastern people.

"This easy?"

The young man was taken aback, then revealed a slightly mocking smile, "Just that easy."

Making things difficult for Cheng Ye outside of the rules they dared not do, but within the rules, letting the Eastern people fight amongst themselves was quite entertaining.

"Pick, he's coming, have the trucks closed up."

"Got it."

Noticing Cheng Ye approaching the trucks, 'Pick' promptly put away the paperwork in his hand.

"Alright, sir, your cargo seems fine."

"Really?"

The Eastern driver, feeling anxious, let out a long sigh of relief.

In the past, he always went in and out from the South Station, but after last night's heavy rain, the road from the suburbs to the South Station was completely blocked, leaving him no choice but to declare at the North Station.

These people's appetite is truly large; he stuffed nearly two hundred Happiness Coins before they finally nodded.

"Wait..."

Just as the Eastern driver was about to get in the car, Pick raised his hand again, "Sorry, an intern inspector thinks there's a problem with your cargo. Please get out for a second inspection."

"What?"

Following Pick's direction, the Eastern driver's face changed drastically.

Damn it.

He actually saw an Eastern inspector at the North Inspection Station, what's going on here?

"Sir... Sir?"

Facing Cheng Ye, the driver was visibly at a loss.

Usually, incidents of car checks, even after a hundred runs, might not encounter an inspector personally intervening.

If it was at the South Station, fine, after long-term dealings there would be some familiar faces, but at the North Station...

If the contraband on the truck was found, he would be finished!

The industrial products smuggled out of Happiness City could be sold at double or even triple the normal freight price.

The profit margin in between, due to the existence of cargo declarations, would largely be taken by the inspection station when entering the city; the driver would only be left with a change, and everyone would tacitly agree to let it be.

But now being intercepted before leaving the city, if the contraband was exposed, the consequences would be unimaginable!

"I got a report from the reporting room staff... that several items on your truck didn't match the declaration, so I'm here to verify it."

"Huh?" The driver's face turned black instantly, couldn't help looking at Pick.

However, what made his heart sink was, at this moment, Pick happened to lower his head, clearly avoiding his eye questioning.

Alright, alright, took the money and reported me, want me dead?

A hint of madness flashed in the driver's eyes, and there was a trace of hostility even in the way he looked at Cheng Ye.

But who could have expected.

"Don't be nervous, I remember you seem to be... Old Zhang from the Autumn Grocery Store in the East District, right?"

Cheng Ye casually made up a name, revealing a slight smile, deliberately slowing his speech, "I even bought a charger for the Defense Communication from you earlier, what, don't you remember me?"

"Charger?"

The driver was evidently stunned, his surname was Bai, not Zhang, and he had never heard of any Autumn Grocery Store in the East District.

But as Cheng Ye said this, the driver suddenly paused, realizing that there might still be a way out.

Since survival was possible, the burning anger instantly vanished, his eyes brightened, he replied hastily, "Sir, how could I forget you, Old Zhang didn't expect to see you on duty at the North Station!"

"You still want to leave the city in this rainy weather, the North Station roads are slippery in the rainy season, not easy to go out, why not take the South Station route?"

Cheng Ye circled around the so-called truck, kicked the edge of the tire.

Since Happiness City produced no oil, all trucks were new energy battery vehicles, their blocky shape resembling the Big Golden Cup of the old times.

"Oh, to be honest, sir, I initially planned to go via the South Station last night, the road's a bit closer, but the rain poured down all night, and the water in the city was too deep to pass, so I detoured to the North Station."

Indeed, being in the freight smuggling business for years sharpened one's instincts.

'Old Zhang' replied instinctively while his mind raced, thinking about the particular words Cheng Ye had stressed.

In this trade, wanting to live long, having insight is not enough; you also need quick wits in dangerous situations.

The North Station roads are slippery during the rainy season...

North Station, slippery roads...

Grasping the key, Old Zhang swallowed and immediately understood what Cheng Ye was hinting at.

And the following words of not easy to go out, left a glimmer of hope, suggesting there might be a turnaround.

As for why not go from the South Station...

Understanding the struggle between the Eastern and Western inspectors, Old Zhang's pupils tightened, and he instantly comprehended.

"Sir, you know Old Zhang, and surely know that Old Zhang never engages in illegal activities."

"If there really are mismatched cargo items, they're definitely not mine but from that group who came last night. They wanted me to help take them out."

"Oh? Who are they?"

A gleam flashed in Cheng Ye's eyes, revealing a satisfied smile, which only deepened Old Zhang's judgment.
