Chapter 14 - Chapter 8: Silk Banner

Lu Xuan never imagined happiness would come so early.

Understanding the situation at the Health Center, he was basically prepared for a month without anyone registering for the Traditional Chinese Medicine department. He never expected to be open for business on the second day.

The key was not just being open, it was the major discovery of being able to hear the heart's voice of traditional Chinese medicine that was the biggest gain so far.

Back at his rental apartment, Lu Xuan didn't rest after taking a shower; instead, he went to his desk, picked up the Treatise on Cold Pathogenic and Miscellaneous Diseases, and continued his studies.

This medical book, consisting of just 80 to 90 thousand words, was enough for Lu Xuan to study a lifetime.

Lu Xuan was also well aware that even though he can now cure people by hearing the heart's voice of traditional Chinese medicine, who can guarantee that he will be able to rely on this for a lifetime?

Perhaps he could hear it today, but it might not work tomorrow, which is still unknown.

What he masters himself is what truly belongs to him.

Lu Xuan had actually thought that if this group of entities could serve as his teachers in Chinese medicine, he was confident that he could quickly grow into a competent Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor.

Unfortunately, no matter how he studied in front of those entities, it failed to grab their attention in the slightest.

It seemed that they were only interested in treating patients.

Shaking his head, Lu Xuan stopped worrying about these matters and continued studying until nearly eleven at night before yawning and falling asleep.

On another side.

Deep night.

Zhou Minjun had a restless night's sleep, with her attention primarily on Nini by her side.

Even though Nini's condition during the day made her feel at ease, as a mother, she couldn't dare to be careless, considering that her child swallowed a screw. Thus, she spent the night constantly monitoring her child's condition.

In case of fever or convulsions, she could notice it in time.

At three in the morning, Zhou Minjun turned over and instinctively touched Nini, finding her body temperature normal. She breathed a slight sigh of relief. Having not rested well for several days, she yawned and turned to continue sleeping when an unusual odor suddenly caught her attention.

"What's this..."

Zhou Minjun instinctively sniffed and then tapped the snoring Qi Wei beside her: "Qi Wei, get up and change your daughter's diaper; she seems to have pooped."

With ten months of training, Qi Wei had already developed a skill set. He immediately woke up, turned on the small lamp, and started changing Nini's diaper after fetching hot water.

With a disposable urine pad laid down, Zhou Minjun placed the sleeping Nini on it, and Qi Wei skillfully tore open the sides of the diaper, finding indeed a poop.

Without much thought, Qi Wei prepared to wrap up the diaper and set it aside, but as he wrapped it, he suddenly felt something unusual, something hard. He instinctively opened it for a look and found a hard object wrapped in the poop in the center of the diaper.

Qi Wei stared at it in a daze.

But very quickly, he turned to a fatigued Zhou Minjun with delight: "Minjun, look."

"Look at what?"

"Hurry up and finish; I need to sleep."

Having not slept well for several days, Zhou Minjun had no time to chat idly with Qi Wei.

"The screw, it's that screw."

"What?"

Qi Wei exclaimed excitedly: "It's the screw that Nini swallowed; it was excreted, really excreted."

Zhou Minjun instantly became alert, looked in the direction Qi Wei was pointing, and indeed saw a hard object resembling a screw completely wrapped in poop.

"Is it really the screw?"

With a face full of surprise, Zhou Minjun still found it hard to believe: "Quick, wash it and see."

Qi Wei wasn't squeamish and reached out to fetch the screw, took it outside to wash it clean, then hurriedly ran back into the room: "Minjun, yes, yes, it's that screw."

While Qi Wei cleaned the screw, Zhou Minjun also finished changing Nini's diaper. Hearing her husband's excited whisper, she looked over in his direction only to see him holding the screw that Nini had accidentally swallowed a few days ago.

"It really is; it's really out!"

With tears streaming down her face, Zhou Minjun took the screw in disbelief, then turned back to look at the sleeping Nini.

Ever since Nini accidentally swallowed the screw, she hadn't had a sound night's sleep, especially in the City Women and Children's Hospital, where she had witnessed Nini's convulsions and emergency rescue, and her heart had been in a constant state of anxiety.

Zhou Minjun was very aware that the risk of performing surgery on such a small child to remove the screw was significant, otherwise, the City Women and Children's Hospital wouldn't have advised her to take Nini to the Provincial Women and Children's Hospital.

Now, seeing Nini successfully expel the screw that had been lodged in her small intestine for three or four days, Zhou Minjun was filled with immense joy and tears.

"Minjun, what's wrong?"

Zhou Minjun's sudden tears made Qi Wei panic slightly; he feared nothing more than seeing Zhou Minjun cry.

"It's nothing, nothing, I'm just so happy."

Seeing her husband's worried expression, Zhou Minjun quickly wiped away her tears: "We really must thank Dr. Lu properly this time."

"Indeed!"

Qi Wei said with deep emotion: "We are truly grateful to Dr. Lu; I really didn't expect someone so young to have such skills. Fortunately, you persisted, otherwise, my mother and I might have taken the child away."

At this point, Qi Wei also felt a tinge of fear.

If he had been more stubborn back then and insisted on taking Nini to the Provincial Women and Children's Hospital, Nini might have faced a surgery to make an incision on her delicate belly to remove the screw stuck in the small intestine.

But he was also well aware that surgery carried risks, and not insignificant ones at that. Even if it would not have cost Nini her life, the post-operative side effects would have been something too severe for a ten-month-old like Nini to bear.
