In front of No. 12 Pear Blossom Lane. A mother and son happened to pass by. The son, about five years old, was holding a skewer of ice sugar gourds. Clearly drooling with greed, he was reluctant to take a bite. The mother encouraged him with a smile.
"Yaya, go ahead and eat if you want. It's a reward for you."
The little boy called Yaya shook his head without thinking, "No way, if I eat it, it will be gone. But if I don't, it will always be there."
The mother's words were caught in her throat.
What could she say?
Accidentally, she saw the statue at the door... Oh! It wasn't a statue, as statues wouldn't show such expectant eyes.
After all, it was too lifelike.
The son saw it too.
"Mom, mom, is this uncle waiting for the ice sugar gourds?"
