Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten

Vincent remained silent as she stepped into the room; he could tell she was angry, yet he resolved to say nothing. He had suggested they share his bedroom; he didn't trust his house staff, most of his staff. He reconsidered. he knew Cyrus would be fishing for information about their marriage, and he wasn't going to doubt the possibility of him gaining access to any of his staff. That bastard could stoop that low.

"I'll be at the study." He said. Trying at all costs to avoid the conversation he knew she wanted to begin.

"We should be in Brazil in the" he took a glance at his watch, "next 12 hours."

"Brazil?" She was surprised, though her voice was laced with annoyance.

"I'll be in the study." He said as he started towards the door. "While you settle in, Queenie." He said before disappearing from her sight.

He took a deep breath as he sat in the study. He had always avoided the study; he hated that his father had sat there pretending to work while his mother had cried her heart out over his mistress or his attention. He had sworn never to enter the room, it was a temple that protected the dick head.

Yet here he was hiding in the same room. He couldn't stand the glare she had on; she was visibly angry, and he hated that. He wanted to surprise her with a trip after the wedding, but she didn't seem pleased.he wondered why as He walked to the coffee machine, grinding his teeth against each other. He hated that she didn't notice how much he wanted her; he needed her to see his desire and to feel the way he felt.

He hated the way he felt; he hated his desire and his need for her to notice. He preferred to be in shadows; he never craved anyone's attention till he met her. It made him feel weak and helpless. All this would come to an end as soon as he became chairman. he thought as he waited for the coffee to brew.

Genesis looked at her phone, not knowing how to feel. Their hands were interlocked, showing their matching wedding rings in the picture. The picture had been taken to announce Vincent's wedding; it was enough to pass a message. He didn't want her to be known to the public yet. Not like she cared.

She bit her gum as she read the comments on an entertainment blog. Lots of commenters called her lucky. She bit her lower lip. She would consider herself lucky if they had married on the grounds of love; this was all business. Letting go of her lips, she reminded herself that the public didn't know about the contract. Pushing her thoughts away, she decided to text Chelsea, but there was no response. She rested her head on the headrest and smiled.

She had always dreamt of visiting Brazil and was going to make sure she enjoyed her dream come true. She looked out the window and focused on the busy street. She wondered how her mother's wedding had been. Were they a perfect couple? Or did they work things out along the way? She closed her eyes to push back the tears, though a few drops escaped. She couldn't wait to get to their hotel; sleep was her only escape for now.

Vincent's brows shot upward as he listened to Henry babble at the other end of the phone. He leaned on the railing of the balcony of their room. Genesis had been asleep for a while. she had refused dinner, canceling his dinner plans for both of them.

"She sacrificed a year of her life to be my wife; that was the least I could do." He replied as he sipped from the wine glasses.

"I understand I'm just worried you're putting your faith in the wrong person." Vincent's lip twitched as Henry sighed, "You barely know her."

"She barely knows me, too." He argued as he strolled into the room. "In a few days, I will be chairman. Let's focus on that," he stopped at the foot of the bed, taking her in. She was fast asleep, her slender body wrapped between the sheets, and her breath steady. It followed the same rhythm with her chest rising and falling simultaneously. He couldn't ignore her undeniable beauty.

"Vincent, are you with me?" Henry's question made him realize he had been staring at her for a while. He cleared his throat.

"I have to go now." He replied, hanging up immediately. He slowly walked toward the sofa at the corner of the room and took a seat. The only light in the room was the bed lamp at his side of the bed. It was enough to illuminate her sleeping form. He wanted to keep enough distance so he wouldn't awaken her; she looked peaceful. He took a deep breath, hoping to suppress the longing that was threatening to take control of him since he first saw her.

Her jet black hair was spilled across the pillow with some loose strands on her face. He wanted her, not for a day or a year. He wanted her for as long as he could. He balled his fist, that would be breaking his vow.he reminded himself. He leaned deeper into the sofa as he considered breaking the vow he had sworn years ago. He pulled his palms over his face: for the first time, he doubt flooded his mind.

Placing the wine glass on the small table, he walked to the bed and stood over her sleeping figure. Bending forward, he carefully picked the strands of hair on her face and placed them away from her face. He took several minutes admiring his work, then took a handful of her hair and inhaled into it deeply. His eyes instinctively closed as the floral scent of her shampoo filled his nostrils, making him groan in his throat as he felt himself grow harder.

He quickly let go of her hair and backed up. The intensity of his desire frightened him. He ran his fingers through his hair, his gaze fixed on her. She was still asleep, even with the movement around her, she hadn't stirred, and here he was, shaken by her peaceful world. he could not get over his craving for a glimpse of that peace. He balled his fist as he reconsidered; his world was filled with chaos, becoming chairman wouldn't be the end of it. It was consistent in his world, and he didn't want her to be a part of it. He had to protect her even if it meant letting her go.

He bent over and placed a light kiss on her lips. "I love you, Queenie," he whispered, then straightened up. His lips curved up into a smile as she took an audible breath and stirred.
