Chapter 8 Part 4: Heartbreak, Betrayal, and Crisis
Why couldn't war or disease kill this pest in Africa?
There'd probably be another black-and-white battle tonight. Would Ling'er send me more videos?
But with Ling'er, I felt at ease even with her heavenly, pure looks, she was lecherous at heart like her mom, and I liked green hats; plus, we were childhood sweethearts. I wasn't afraid she'd cheat in a way I didn't expect.
Still, being fucked again and again by the black devil who'd once bullied me, it both stung and thrilled.
Maybe I'll look up info on that star Chang Shuixian…
Chang Shuixian, 26, actress, singer, multi-award winner… In photos, a tall snow-skinned beauty, perfect figure. Her face was flawless, with a hint of stubbornness and tenacity, her black eyes seemed to speak.
No wonder she often played anti-Japanese leads descendants of military clans are born proud and unyielding: even standing mute, you'd feel she could charge into battle or command an army from HQ.
Comparing Chang Shuixian, Mom (Gu Yunting), and Aunt Ouyang, it looked like an empress with a general and a marshal.
"Ding-dong."
"A'tian, sorry for replying so late. We just finished eating, now heading to the cinema come with Ling'er!" Lin Mi finally replied.
I realized Lin Mi knew all along that me and Ling'er's breakup was fake; in her eyes, I was always with Ling'er, so inviting Ling'er out now made sense she figured I'd be with my real girlfriend.
No wonder she was swept away by that pretty boy Yamaken, and took forever to text back. Damn, I really overestimated my own appeal, thinking I could have them both. After all, I was just her "fake" boyfriend!
I wanted to slap myself.
No matter. I rushed out, hailed a cab, and texted Lin Mi that I was coming alone.
Maybe by playing into Lin Mi's affection for me, I could win her back from the Japanese. Even introducing her to an average Chinese would be better than handing her over to a Jap!
"Ling'er isn't coming? Fine, we'll wait at the cinema."
We?
That word stung felt like I was about to crash someone else's date.
Ten minutes later, I found the cinema entrance. From afar, I saw the tall, lithe Lin Mi laughing with the handsome youth, sometimes even touching.
Damn, so close already? I underestimated the gentle offensive of a good-looking guy it works like magic on a soft-spot girl!
"Sorry to keep you waiting…" I hurried over and slipped myself nonchalantly between them, reaching for Lin Mi's hand.
Just before I could, Yamaken yanked me aside, slapped my hand away, and said coldly, "Mi-mi already told me you already have a girlfriend, your relationship was just a ploy to fool Governor Leng Nai Xiang. Right now, Mi-mi is mine alone! Plus, I warn you, Leng Nai Xiang is now Yedun Ichiro's woman, you and that Shui Ling'er will never be together! You and your useless father are both doomed to die at the hands of my Yamaken clan!"
I was thunderstruck. Why did Lin Mi betray me? Was it because my fake breakup with Ling'er hurt her?
In shock, I looked at Lin Mi; that calm, cool girl now seemed a little unfamiliar.
"Sorry, A'tian I just felt it was unfair to Nagamaru-kun, so I told him everything… There was no way to keep hiding, Leng Aunty would find out anyway, so better to be clear early…" she said, lips pouting in helplessness.
I stared, seeing her soldier's decisiveness quick, direct, simple.
But I wouldn't give up; even if nothing could happen between us, I couldn't let this Jap win, hastily explaining, "But Aunt Ouyang has always…"
"Enough, A'tian!" Lin Mi suddenly cut me off loudly, very decisive. "Let's not talk about that. Time for a movie! Outside of school, I'm always either at Special Ops or ballet it's rare to get out and have fun, let's just relax…" She deftly tucked her short hair behind her ear and smiled at Yamaken, "Nagamaru-kun, let's go in!"
"Of course…" Yamaken followed two steps, then turned and gestured at Lin Mi's tight butt, "Chinese girls' asses are really springy… heh…"
"Nagamaru, come on! We need popcorn." Lin Mi turned curiously at his laughter, urging him onward.
"My beautiful angel your knight is coming."
"Giggle… Nagamaru-kun, you're so polite…" Lin Mi responded, covering her mouth daintily.
Damn it all!
"Oh yeah," Yamaken said, turning to me, "I've met your sister and girlfriend too. Mmm… Chinese girls really are tasty…"
I trembled in anger, but couldn't explode when Lin Mi interrupted me, she winked, clearly hoping I'd play along.
All I could do was grit my teeth and endure.
By the snacks counter, Yamaken guarded Lin Mi, but seeing how I could only glare uselessly, he relaxed, sneering and making a throat-slitting gesture. Then, to my disgust, he licked his tongue obscenely through the air in Lin Mi's direction as if savoring her flesh, jokingly lewd.
Should I go in with them to watch? Or man up and punch that disgusting face? Or just walk away with a laugh?
...
Why a horror movie?
I went in after all maybe the memory of watching Yedun rail mom's huge ass made me want to see Yamaken do Lin Mi as well. Driven by some twisted urge, I followed them in.
To my surprise, they picked a horror film; I couldn't watch any of it, even the music set me on edge.
But Lin Mi was thoroughly engrossed, screaming with Yamaken and sharing popcorn. Whenever the suspense peaked, Lin Mi would clutch Yamaken's hand so tightly she nearly buried herself in his arms!
Afterward, they exited hand in hand, Lin Mi's cheeks flushed pink whether from fright or bashfulness I couldn't say.
They walked in silence, but closer and closer utterly a couple.
Yamaken had learned a wealth of smooth lines somewhere, full of elegance and substance, deeply impressing seasoned-with-the-elite Lin Mi. Several times, he clearly made moves on her legs; she only responded naturally, not rejecting him at all.
Did Lin Mi remember her mother's warning? Or was she seducing him to extract intel? Or was it Yamaken's plan, getting info from her?
Compared to them, I felt like a clown.
Mom was acting, Leng Niang was acting, Ling'er was acting, Aunt Ouyang was acting, now even Lin Mi… I was constantly picking up hints, yet always in the dark, piecing together only from the scraps what secret operation they were planning!
Just as I trailed behind them like a third wheel, my phone rang.
"A'tian…"
"Ling'er, what's wrong?" Her voice was full of fear, and trembling; my heart leapt in worry. "Don't be afraid, what happened?"
"A'tian…" Ling'er's voice still trembled. In the background music, there were sounds of crying.
"Ling'er, don't be scared, I'm here! Take a deep breath." Her tension made my heart pound faster.
"Kaklik… Kaklik… he was killed…"
