"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 229: The Yamai Sisters' Battle of Charm
Shuo couldn't help but admire the scene before him—the Yamai twins, so alike in looks yet polar opposites in attitude. He circled them, hands in pockets, a grin tugging at his lips.
"I've got to say, the Yamai sisters' Astral Dresses are something else. Honestly, among all the Spirits, maybe only Nia could put up a fight in the sex appeal department."
He gave them an approving nod, but the moment wasn't lost on the rest of the girls. Tohka marched up, grabbing his arm, her lips pursed in a pout.
"Hmph! Shuo, are you saying my Astral Dress isn't pretty enough?"
He smiled, brushing a thumb over her hand.
"Not a chance. Yours is gorgeous, Tohka. Each of you has your own style."
But the truth was, the Yamai twins' outfits were undeniably more daring—cut higher, clinging tighter, designed to turn heads. Shuo's eyes drifted back to them, and he stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"Still, if Hurricane Child Yamai hadn't split, I'd never have gotten to meet these two wild sisters."
"Hurricane Child Yamai? Split?"
The girls exchanged confused glances.
Even Kaguya and Yuzuru paused, curiosity flickering in their eyes.
Kaguya, ever the dramatic one, puffed up and pointed at Shuo.
"Hey, human! Who's this Hurricane Child Yamai you're talking about? And why do you say Yuzuru and I split from her?"
Yuzuru chimed in, her voice flat as ever.
"Question. Why has Yuzuru never heard of Hurricane Child Yamai? Request. Please explain."
Shuo chuckled, glancing at Kurumi and the others, who looked just as lost.
"Long story short, Hurricane Child Yamai was your original form. During one appearance in the world, she split into you two—Kaguya and Yuzuru. You're both independent now, but technically, you're still two halves of the same Spirit."
Kaguya mulled this over, then nodded with exaggerated seriousness.
"I see! Yuzuru, you should admit I'm the true Yamai Spirit. Only I deserve the Hurricane Child Yamai name!"
She struck a victory pose, basking in imagined glory.
Yuzuru didn't miss a beat.
"Denial. The rightful heir to Hurricane Child Yamai's name is Yuzuru. Kaguya is unworthy."
Kaguya huffed. "Futile resistance! My magic eyes have already seen your future—soon, you'll be skewered by my hurricane's jet-black spear!"
Yuzuru blinked.
"Correction. Kaguya's magic eyes have never been accurate."
Kaguya spluttered. "What?! They have too! Stop underestimating me!"
The twins' bickering ramped up, leaving the room echoing with snipes and retorts. Kotori rubbed her temples.
"These two are a headache. Hey, you big pervert—aren't you going to do something?"
Shuo shrugged.
"Come on, Kotori, you're hardly one to talk. Every Spirit in this house is a little… unusual."
He ticked them off on his fingers:
"Origami's got her own brand of weird, Nia's a hopeless otaku, Kurumi's a yandere, Yoshino's shy, Kotori—you're split personality incarnate, Miku's a total girl magnet, and Tohka here is both a glutton and a jealous princess."
He grinned. "Honestly, compared to all that, Kaguya and Yuzuru might be the most normal Spirits we've got."
The girls stared at him, equal parts wounded and speechless.
Feeling their gazes, Shuo's confidence wavered. A bead of sweat broke out on his forehead.
He coughed, softening his tone.
"But hey, no matter what you're like, I'm not going anywhere. I'll protect all of you, always."
He reached out and ruffled Kotori's hair, earning a blush and a shy smile. Tohka, Kurumi, and the others couldn't help but smile too, a wave of warmth passing through the group.
With the mood lightened, Shuo turned back to the twins, who looked ready to start round two of their argument. He stepped between them, catching each by the wrist.
"Alright, cool it. If you two start fighting again, this beach trip is over before it begins!"
Kaguya glared, her pride stung.
"You dare interfere with our duel? What's your game, human? If you don't explain yourself, I'll—uh—I'll pierce you with my radiant shadow spear!"
Yuzuru interjected, deadpan.
"Observation. The name is different than before."
"Enough, Yuzuru! Just hush!"
"Question. Yuzuru doesn't understand why she must hush."
Both twins turned to Shuo, waiting.
A moment passed. Suddenly, Kaguya's eyes lit up, a sly smile curling her lips. She spun to face Yuzuru.
"Hey, Yuzuru, I just had a brilliant idea—let's settle who gets the Yamai name once and for all!"
Yuzuru's gaze didn't waver.
"Question. What is your idea, Kaguya?"
Kaguya paused, then slowly turned her gaze to Shuo.
As the sun dipped low, the villa's living room glowed with golden light. Kaguya and Yuzuru flanked Shuo on either side, their fingers tracing teasing lines up his arms.
"So, Shuo," Kaguya purred, "tell us—between me and Yuzuru, who's more irresistible?"
Yuzuru's eyes glinted.
"Inquiry. Which is cuter—Yuzuru or flat-chested Kaguya?"
Kaguya bristled. "What's with that insulting nickname, Yuzuru?!"
Yuzuru shrugged.
"Ignoring. Compared to runway Kaguya, Yuzuru is both cuter and sexier."
Kaguya groaned. "You're getting worse, I swear!"
The rest of the girls watched, bemused, but no one stepped in.
The whole scene was straight out of the original story—Kaguya had proposed a "charm duel," winner decided by who could seduce Shuo first. Loser gets absorbed by the victor.
And for Shuo, being the center of attention between two gorgeous, competitive twins? He was more than happy to play along.
