Tyler approached Lolita in the hallway beside him was Kacy.
Tyler said, "Lolita I've hire the maid for the castle, her name is Kacy."
Lolita sneered at Tyler. "Why did you hire her? She looks like rift-raft?"
Kacy's cheeks turned bright pink. Tyler said, "Because she's met the criteria for the job."
Lolita lifted her chin. "My standards are very high. If she doesn't perform, I'll show her the door. What is she wearing?"
Lolita wrinkled her nose at Kacy's plain black dress.
Tyler said, "It's all she owns. She'd lost everything because of the flood."
Lolita said, "Oh. Get her one of my old dresses, and she can wear it as her maid's uniform." Lolita left.
Tyler said, "I'll show you your room." Kacy followed Tyler down the hallway. Tyler grabbed the handle of the wooden door and pulled it opened. They trotted down the staircase and into the basement. Grey concrete walls, two beds, a wooden closet and a table.
"You'll be sharing this room with Alina and a washroom." Tyler pointed at the wooden door. Kacy opened the door to peek inside the washroom. A large crack was on the lid of the toilet. Green mold was on the sink. She closed the door.
"It smells funky," Kacy responded.
"It's from the mold." His hand dug into the pocket of his blazer and gave Kacy a map.
"This is the outline of the castle. Certain rooms are off limits unless Lolita Evergreen has given you permission to clean the rooms." Tyler pulled out a pager from his duffel bag.
"This is your pager; you must carry it with you all of the time. You're to assist Lolita right away, if she buzzes you." Tyler pointed at the board on the wall. "This is your work schedule."
Kacy nodded and Tyler left the room. Kacy sighed, at least she'd a roof over her head and a place to sleep.
