Chapter 6 - Ruler of Eden

Her hand gripped the sword tightly, with the aim of protecting thousands of human lives from the Demons. Her golden eyes were full of fear and worry, seeing the little girl who appeared to be held hostage by an evil demon.

Even though he had transformed into a human form, she was not easily fooled.

Marie was precious, not just to humanity but also to her. Because the child reminded her of past memories she would never forget. Though not bound by blood, her feelings for Marie remained the same.

Moreover, the Bless she possessed was too valuable to be lost so easily. Thanks to Marie, many demons had been vanquished.

She would never allow herself to lose her again. With that blazing sword, she would cut down anything that dared to hurt her little sister.

"Get away from there, Marie!" she shouted.

But Marie seemed to ignore her warning and instead stood in front of that vile demon with her arms outstretched.

"No, Sis. This demon isn't evil. I want this demon to be brought inside the city," she said with full determination.

"WHAT?!?" She didn't know what the girl was thinking, wanting to bring him inside the city. But could Marie be brainwashed? It was impossible for Marie to let him in just like that; she herself had said she hated demons from the bottom of her heart.

"Trust me, Sis, I promise he won't attack anyone."

"Even so, I can't just let a demon enter the city like this. I'll snap you out of his brainwashing," she said while drawing her sword.

The next second, Rose vanished from her position. With immense speed, she charged forward, aided by a burst of flame from her feet.

Then she swiftly thrust her sword towards the heart of the demon behind Marie, who hadn't even been able to react. Without pulling the sword out, she slashed horizontally, tearing through the demon like paper. Then she pushed him away and pulled Marie back, away from there.

Marie must be disoriented from the sudden, swift movement, but at least she was safe by her side.

"W-what?!" Marie uttered in confusion.

"You're safe now, Marie. Let me be the one to kill him," she said while her sword ignited with red flames.

But then Marie grabbed her clothes. "W-wait, listen to me, Sis."

Rose glanced back. "No, you wait here."

"No, you'd better listen to her." Suddenly, another voice was heard behind her. Rose froze; a sharp blade was mere centimeters from her neck. One small move, and she felt her neck would be pierced.

Rose could do nothing but grit her teeth. She blamed herself for being careless, for allowing a demon like him near the city, and for letting Marie be brainwashed by him. Once again, she had failed to protect her.

"Don't you interfere!!" Marie shouted angrily.

The piercing sensation around her neck disappeared. Immediately, Rose took a guarded stance facing the demon. Now the demon was standing there casually, the fatal wound she had inflicted gone as if it had never been there.

Now Rose was certain that this demon was a powerful one and would be a difficult opponent.

"This demon is subject to my commands, Sis. Don't worry."

"Really? How is that possible?"

Marie showed her palm, revealing an intricate black tattoo there. Rose suddenly felt all the strength in her legs vanish. Her grip on her sword weakened, and her life felt shattered.

"What?" she uttered weakly.

A long corridor adorned with ornaments, light from the windows illuminating the path. Rose walked with the full grace befitting one of the generals protecting humanity. But her eyes did not; within them was panic because now a high-ranking demon was walking casually behind her.

She didn't know what he was thinking as he occasionally glanced out the window. Was he planning a massacre or some other terrible thing?

Despite that, Marie, who was there, seemed to pay it no mind at all. It appeared she fully believed that the demon was completely subservient to her, which was also the reason she had let him into the city.

They were currently inside the sacred palace of the kingdom of Eden. A place that should be inaccessible to such a creature. She couldn't believe she was allowing him into this place. She would resignedly accept punishment for her sin if necessary.

A giant door stood ahead, blocking their path. The door was enormous, decorated with intricate patterns made of gold.

Rose took the door handle, which was a ring, and knocked several times.

"Enter."

A voice was heard from behind the door. The voice sounded very calm yet filled with high confidence, like that of a ruler.

Rose then opened the door, revealing its interior. A statue of the goddess stood gracefully at the far end of the room, with chairs for the faithful arranged neatly in front of it.

In the frontmost chair sat a figure in a white robe with a golden crown on his head. The sound of footsteps echoed in the room, shattering the solemn atmosphere.

Rose knelt and bowed her head with full respect. Marie did the same, as did Morgrath.

The crowned figure stood up and turned around. It turned out he was an old, wrinkled man with white eyebrows.

"Rise," he said, full of gentleness.

Whether due to poor eyesight or blindness, he did not seem surprised by the presence of a demon like Morgrath in the room.
