"I'll be there soon," Ryan said into the phone and hung up.
He stood there for a moment in Marcus's hallway, the phone still warm in his hand, his mind already racing ahead to what Matt might have discovered. His expression had changed slightly after hearing Matt say he had something to tell him about Marcus, something important enough that it couldn't wait until morning.
Marcus hadn't heard any of Matt's words through the phone of course, but Ryan could feel the weight of whatever was coming settling over him like a heavy blanket.
He looked back toward the living room where Marcus was still sitting on the couch, and his mind went through the possibilities of what Matt could have found. Could Marcus have bad intentions towards him? Was he working for someone, maybe gathering information? Ryan thought about it for a second and then dismissed the idea almost immediately.
