Chapter 18 - The Ominous Message*

Lily's hands trembled as she held the paper. "Who's coming for us?" she asked Lucas, her voice shaking. Lucas's eyes scanned the room, as if searching for an answer. "I don't know," he said, "but we need to get out of here, now." The message on the paper seemed to echo in her mind, filling her with dread.

They quickly made their way to the front door, but it wouldn't budge. The hum had grown so loud it was almost deafening. The house was shaking violently, and the air was electric with an eerie energy. Lily felt like they were trapped. She pulled on the door handle, but it refused to open. Lucas tried to help, but it was stuck fast.

The lights flickered and dimmed, as if preparing for a power outage. Lily's anxiety spiked. She didn't like being trapped, especially with the ominous message and the strange hum. Lucas's face was set in determination. "We'll find another way out," he said, pulling her away from the door.

As they moved through the darkening house, the hum grew louder. It was a low, menacing sound that seemed to vibrate through every cell in Lily's body. She could feel it in her bones, making her teeth rattle and her skin crawl. Lucas's grip on her hand tightened. "Stay close," he whispered.

Suddenly, the lights died, plunging them into darkness. Lily's heart was racing. She heard footsteps, heavy and deliberate, coming from outside. "They're here," Lucas whispered, his voice barely audible over the hum. Lily's skin crawled with fear. What were they going to do? The darkness seemed to press in around them, making it hard to breathe.
