Chapter 5 - Grandfather...

Shoutout to Enzo_Morningstar92 for this inspiration. The idea for this chapter and the following arcs will be far better than what I had originally planned. Thank you, Enzo_Morningstar92. (If anyone else has ideas for plot or character relations, please comment! I will take them into consideration and give you a shoutout too!)

3rd Person POV

A HIDDEN HIGH-TECH LAB,

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

As the sun slowly sets, a beautiful myriad of pinks and purples stains the sky, illuminating the Windy City in an ethereal glow.

It's a peaceful night, unlike many of the nights that have plagued the city in recent decades.

A man can be seen walking on the sidewalk. His frame is tall, and if one looked closely, they would see the physique of a highly capable warrior.

His long confident strides carry him at a leisurely pace, hands in his pockets as he enjoys the evening stroll.

His short black hair is styled in waves, though the sides of his head bear uniquely colored silver streaks.

His chocolate-brown skin gleams in the fading light, and his attractive features wear a relaxed expression that upon closer inspection would reveal his contentment.

He walks toward an upscale high-rise apartment building, his footsteps measured.

"Good afternoon, sir! Sure is a beautiful night, ain't it?" The chipper voice of an elderly doorman posted at the entrance of the apartment building rings out.

Turning toward the energetic old man who has been the doorman of the building for decades, the man nods, a faint smile gracing his face.

"That it most certainly is, Mr. Hansen. That it is..."

"Back when I was a boy, my mother told me something about these kinds of nights—something I still vividly remember, even though her face is blurry in my mind. She sat me down and said, 'Kenneth! Beautiful nights like these, when the sky seems to smile with joy, are reminders. Reminders that no matter the circumstance, stay strong. Because if the big mysterious sky can be beautiful, then we small people down here can be too..."

"A wise woman indeed. I can see why you're such an optimistic and cheerful man, Mr. Hansen," the man replies, a hint of respect in his dark eyes, eyes that have seen the universe itself.

"Yes. She was..." Mr. Hansen murmurs, his thoughts slowly drifting. When he finally looks up, the man is gone.

Inside the penthouse suite, the man sits on the couch, the voice of James Brown playing from the record player behind him.

He is about to open a seemingly expensive bottle of bourbon.

As he lifts the bottle to pour into his glass, he pauses, then suddenly smiles.

"It's been a long time, my friend. Though it is always pleasant to see you."

"I share the sentiment. But I fear now is far from the time to idly converse. I have come to you, friend to friend, to inform you of something you cannot possibly hope to see yourself without my guidance." A powerful voice echoes across the room.

"May I inquire as to the details? After all... it has been twenty years, and this is our first reunion... Uatu," The man says, gazing upon the floating head rippling with cosmic energy, his expression serious.

"Adam. You have a son. His name Is DaVontae. One you have never met. He possesses an anti-matter enhanced physiology far purer than that of your other children, though much weaker in raw power."

Adam freezes, shock and agony warring across his face.

"A... son? I... wasn't there for him. He doesn't even know me..." Adam whispers, his eyes moistening.

Uatu pauses, his heart softening as he gazes at the agonized face of his closest friend, the godfather of his daughter.

"Adam. I'm terribly sorry. I only discovered this development today. But, as sad as you may be, your estranged son is not the cause for my intrusion upon your dwelling," Uatu says softly, catching Adam's attention once more.

"Please elaborate," Adam states simply.

"Your estranged son's progeny. Your grandson. He possesses powers beyond measure. His potential and future are hidden from my sight. From all of the Watcher's sights. He is protected by existence itself. He needs guidance. For should he fall astray, even if only for a moment, not only Earth would suffer, the universe would follow. All... universes. Across the multiverse. One by one, until all is naught but ash..."

"I will... do my best," Adam repeats firmly, standing up.

"You must. He is a good kid, with a good heart. But life is not. It devours good people whole and spits them out. I cannot be certain, but his weakness is definitely those he loves. I may not be able to foresee his fate, but I can foresee ours. The survival of all timelines depends on your grandson's actions. So guide him, Adam. Return to the world that hurt you, to save all worlds. As Blue Marvel. And more importantly... as a grandfather."

Adam Brashear, a cosmic-tier powerhouse capable of battling the Sentry at full strength, ending Galactus' hunger, and even matching the Living Tribunal and Infinaut, now stands before the entity known as Uatu the Watcher. His friend and sworn brother. And he resolutely accepts the most important mission in history.

"I'll do my best, my friend," he states simply, a look of determination burning in his eyes that speaks of hope.

"I know you will. For your sake. For my sake. For the sake of the Multiverse..."
