Ezrik snatched the floating scythe out of the air and hurled it straight into the skull of the Hollowed sprinting toward him. The blade sliced clean through, then ripped itself free, sending the creature's corpse crashing to the ground.
He exhaled sharply and looked around.
Zeke and Reed were already standing over two more Hollowed, their bodies twitching on the dirt. The scythe hovered for a second, then darted into the trees after Indigo.
Ezrik blinked.
"Huh? Where is she going?" he muttered, drawing Zeke and Reed's attention.
"Who?" Zeke asked.
"The girl," Ezrik said, nudging a Hollowed corpse with his boot.
Zeke and Reed exchanged a look then began scanning the trees. Indigo was fast, but not so fast she should've vanished without a sound.
"Wait!"
They turned sharply.
Ashar, Jett, and Piper stumbled out of the bushes, panting like they'd run miles. Sweat dripped down their temples. Their hands shook. Their pupils...
Ezrik's eyes widened.
Their pupils were dilated.
