Chapter 261: Just This Once
Artemisia's lips parted slightly as if she were about to speak. A moment later, she closed them again without saying a word.
For a few seconds, she held Cassian's gaze. Then she slowly took her hand off his chest, stepped back, and turned away.
"I think you're right..." she murmured, her voice lower than usual. "I don't have the right to ask you to trust me."
Cassian didn't answer, and Artemisia didn't seem to expect him to. She stood with her back to him, her long hair stirring in the night wind.
After a brief silence, she turned back to face him. She still looked sad, but there was a hint of a smile on her lips.
"So, how's life been?"
Cassian raised his eyebrows slightly. "What?"
"Are you happy?"
The question caught him off guard. He hesitated, then narrowed his eyes a little as he looked at her.
"You've been watching my every move this whole time. You already know the answer."
