Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

In its center, suspended by crackling energy beams, was a sphere of pure, swirling light, radiating immense power. Along the cavern's edges, countless conduits snaked, ending in active, humming transfer stations. "Woah," Athena whispered. "That's... a lot more intense than the old blueprints implied."

"More intense is right," Nyx breathed, her voice filled with quiet wonder as she gazed at the pulsating core. "It's not just a power source; it almost feels like a consciousness within that sphere." Mason pointed to a series of consoles circling the chamber. "Alright, Athena, Nyx. Get to those stations. Find a way to stabilize that power before it rips this place apart. Artemis, Leo, with me. We're holding the perimeter."

Hadrian looks about slowly, watching the team work. He walks around the space carefully as he observes the core only for his Nora system to prompt him with notices.

[Unstable energy Core located. Secret quest open.]

{Secret Quest: All for One. So you've found a raw power source on the verge of collapse, you could go the nice route and simply stabilize it but naw, that is pure power right there. Would you like to absorb and break down the energy Core for experience points? This core has enough power to lvl you up 5 lvls.}

Hadrian reads the notification and struggles with himself. He knew what the mission was, that Mason wanted to stabilize it. But that was a big lvl up if he absorbs it... He wasn't sure what to do.

Hadrian moved carefully around the vast chamber, his gaze fixed on the suspended core. Its pulsating light cast dancing shadows, highlighting the web of crackling energy beams that held it. He could feel the sheer power radiating from it, feeling his own reserves stir in response.

"Alright, Athena, Nyx, get to those stations. Find a way to stabilize that power before it rips this place apart!" Mason's voice cut through the ambient hum, resolute. He gestured towards the gleaming consoles arranged around the massive chamber.

Athena swiftly approached a terminal, her fingers already flying across the holographic interface. "This energy signature is wild," she observed, a slight frown creasing her brow. "It's not just unstable; it's aggressively volatile. Like it's fighting back against containment. Trying to integrate these input protocols is a nightmare."

Nyx settled before another console, her crystalline device glowing furiously as she scanned the core. "It pulses with such sentience," she murmured, a gentle note of reverence in her tone. "It yearns for balance, Athena, but also freedom. We must find a harmonious frequency for stabilization, not merely an override."

Artemis stretched his arms, casting a wary eye at the shifting energy flows. "Just tell me which bits to punch if they start lookin' aggressive. Containment, balance, whatever. It all boils down to not blowing us up, right?"

"And here I thought it just needed a good spot of polish," Leo Harten chimed in, circling a humming conduit with exaggerated theatricality. "Perhaps a catchy jingle? Something about responsible energy use. Are you certain your ancient schematics account for its... personality?" He turned to Mason, a curious glint in his grey eyes. "This core feels less like a power source and more like a suppressed entity."

Mason's gaze lingered on the core's dazzling heart, his expression one of concentrated determination. "Whatever it is, suppressed or conscious, it's threatening to tear this entire facility apart if we don't bring it to heel." He began moving towards Artemis and Leo. "Hold the perimeter."

Hadrian watches the team struggle and bites his lip in thought. At this point it was safer to just absorb it, the whole structure was groaning from the fluctuating energy. Hadrian nods to himself before walking up to Mason, his resolve set.

Mason's emerald eyes were fixed on the chaotic core, his jaw set in determination. His hands clenched slightly at his sides as Athena and Nyx struggled to interface with the volatile power source. The air thrummed with increasing instability.

Hadrian approached Mason with resolute steps, cutting through the high-pitched hum of the core. "Do you trust me?" he asked firmly, his gaze meeting Mason's. His voice, though quiet, was sharp enough to pierce through the electrical crackle in the chamber.

Mason's eyes, without hesitation, locked onto Hadrian. "With what I've seen you do, Hadrian... yes," he responded, his voice low and steady amidst the surging power. "I do."

A softer smile touched Hadrian's lips, almost a gentle relief. "Thank you," he murmured, then turned abruptly. He didn't wait for Mason's next question, simply turned and walked with purpose directly towards the swirling mass of light and raw energy. The ground beneath them trembled.

"Hadrian? What are you...?" Athena began, her hand leaving a control panel as she watched him move with an impossible calm against the raging energies of the core. The crackling electricity seemed to part around him, yet he leaned into the resistance, pushing through the dense, surging power.

Nyx's crystal device flared wildly, reflecting the sheer force radiating from the core, but her eyes, wide with wonder, were fixed on Hadrian's figure. "His aura... it's almost drawing the energy," she whispered, her voice laced with awe.

Artemis grunted, fists clenched. "That's either the bravest or craziest damn thing I've ever seen." Leo Harten merely smiled enigmatically, his illusory motes spinning faster as Hadrian reached the heart of the core's tempest.
