BOOM!
With several shots from the xenos' beam weapons, the first layer of defensive fortifications, symbolizing the strongest part of the entire defense line, finally collapsed under the strain.
A cloud of yellow-green dust was kicked up.
Even though the defenders resisted stubbornly and held their ground firmly, they were still no match for the xenos' powerful laser weapons.
Ting, ting!
The crystal-bodied xenos, seeing this, made several crisp crystal-clashing sounds, as if cheering for the smooth progress of the battle as expected.
At the same time, more crystal xenos descended from the warships to the surface to participate in the annihilation of the remaining humans.
In their understanding, the battle had basically ended at this stage.
The enemy's weak fleet had fled in panic after they passed through the gate, leaving only these isolated and helpless ground troops and a not-so-sturdy defensive fortress.
And after breaking through the fortress, the rest was just garbage time for cleaning up the battlefield and chasing down deserters.
Countless small, raindrop-like defenders had already gradually escaped when the fortress was on the verge of collapse, turning into frightened wild beasts scattering across the vast crystal plain.
The enemy had already routed.
The xenos army naturally had no more scruples. They wriggled their crystal bodies and advanced towards the next human defensive line.
They believed that with the powerful firepower of their energy weapons that could melt everything, victory was just a matter of time.
Until they saw the automated aerial servitors circling above their heads.
"Master, I don't object to you going to find someone to duel."
"After all, in war, as long as a tactic is effective, it's a good tactic."
Kasjia was speechless at Arcur's tactical thinking.
"But the prerequisite for a duel is to be able to find the enemy leader's location and break through their defenses before they can slip away."
"And what that requires is the most crucial element of modern warfare—"
"Intelligence, information."
Kasjia paused slightly.
"Look," he pointed to the crystal constructs continuously advancing towards them outside the fortress.
"These xenos are just intoxicated by their current victory, thinking our resistance is negligible."
"Without investigating our remaining firepower, they are rashly advancing to chase down our remnants."
"Next, they will suffer a little for their arrogance."
As he spoke, Kasjia looked at the automated servitors in the sky, which were now closing in on them.
"What are these?"
"Automated aerial servitors."
Arcur frowned.
She had, of course, heard of automated servitors as a combat unit. They were war machines frequently used by the Legio Cybernetica of the Martian Mechanicum, allies of the Imperium of Man.
They could fire and provide cover under the direction of technical personnel, and their performance on the battlefield was extremely powerful.
But no matter what, their size would never be as small as what she was seeing.
"Surprised?"
"This is the latest equipment that I proposed, improved by Fulgrim, Ferris, and many Magi of the Mechanicum, and finally secured a trial production line on a forge world of the Legio Cybernetica," Kasjia explained with a hint of pride.
These automated servitors were extremely small, some even smaller than a normal person's palm.
Relying on their light weight and large numbers, these servitors quickly occupied the poison-cloud-covered sky of the Silent Star.
"But these servitors are so small. Even if they occupy the sky, what's the use?"
Arcur felt a little regretful.
If these were the behemoths of the Mechanicum, the overwhelming firepower of the aerial servitors would have long since routed the xenos.
But the aerial servitors Kasjia had released were too light to carry any effective weapons.
Flying in the sky, they were like toys.
"Mapping."
"Or rather, to grasp the best, most timely intelligence."
The xenos naturally noticed these flying objects of unknown origin.
Many of them had already started firing at these harassing flying objects with their energy weapons.
As for the effect, as the old Terran proverb says—using an anti-aircraft gun to shoot a mosquito.
The automated aerial servitors, as small as mosquitoes, had no defensive modules.
To reduce costs, they didn't even have the most basic anti-gravity equipment, relying only on simple wind power to fly.
So primitive!
Many of the xenos holding energy weapons sneered at this.
Instead of wasting their ammunition on such crude and ridiculous creations, it was better to just advance and destroy the enemy's frontal defensive fortifications.
After a brief moment of initial alarm, they quickly calmed down and continued to advance, no longer paying attention to these annoying flies.
And those aerial servitors...
...seemed to just stay in the sky, doing nothing.
"What is this now!"
First Captain Julius Kaesoron, who had retreated to the second-level fortress, fell into despair again.
When he saw the automated aerial servitors spreading out like a large net, his opinion of Kasjia had changed dramatically.
Kaesoron had originally thought that this guy had just gotten lucky and guessed the xenos' attack. He hadn't expected him to actually have a secret weapon.
The sky full of aerial servitors blotted out the sun, which gave Kaesoron a sense of relief.
It seemed this guy really did have a backup plan.
Unfortunately.
He had a plan, but not much of one.
As time went on, the xenos gradually realized that the aerial servitors seemed to be equipped with no weapons.
They could only serve as a simple harassment.
The xenos then gave up wasting time clearing them and instead continued to advance towards the human fortress.
Damn it!
Kaesoron wanted to fly directly into Kasjia's face and curse him out.
Does this Kasjia even understand servitors!
Are they really all just reconnaissance drones?!
Although these aerial servitors were numerous enough to blot out the sun, they were not equipped with any weapons.
So what use could they possibly be?
Also, what happened to that so-called Chemosian Guard, the mortal auxiliaries? Why had there been no sign of them since the first fortress fell?
Were they all buried inside?
Looking at the crystal-construct-like xenos still advancing towards them, Kaesoron could only think that this was bad.
Could it be...
...that their entire group of Emperor's Children was really going to be wiped out at the hands of that incompetent Kasjia?
Just as he was about to fall into despair, a prompt suddenly appeared on Kaesoron's helmet display.
[Real-time data transfer received]
[Displaying battlefield topography for you]
The enemy's troop deployment, personnel arrangements, defensive line of sight...
Even the entire battlefield's terrain, ravines, and depths, countless battlefield data, were all input into the helmet's identification system.
"This is..."
The always-arrogant First Captain Kaesoron fell silent at this moment.
"Chemosian Guard deployed, ready to attack at any time."
"Melta-bomb-type automated servitors ready."
As unit after unit completed their deployment through the communication device, Kasjia looked at the ignorant xenos army still advancing.
He showed a smile.
"The time is right. All units, on my mark."
"Go."
